I agree somethings not right... I went thru three sets of tires on my FLTRX never got less than 15k miles on the rear and never had belts showing... Dunlop 407, Dunlop American Elites and Michelin Commander II's...
I have yet to get more than 6000 miles out of the last 2 Dunlops I've had without center being bald. Nothing wrong with my bike either and I don't do burnouts. Probably trying Michelin next.

You , Sir, most certainly have an issue!! No way a rear tire goes away that fast under normal operation!! Either incorrect pressure or extremely hard acceleration or both!
I suppose there could be other factors, but you have now heard my $.02

Not sure what tires you are running but the new dual compound tires typically get 15k miles and more... When I had my 2003 Road King Classic with Dunlop 402s lucky to get 5k miles... Of course 402s were not dual compound...
You guys getting high teens out of the rear OEM tire, what pressure are you running?
I am at 11,600 now, and about 3/32nds tread left. I run the rear at 42PSI

Good lord. I am one of the lucky ones. I went over 16,000 miles last weekend and I still have a couple thousand left on the original tires. I check pressures at least weekly and run 40 psi rear/38 psi front. Just over 7,000 of the miles were two up, loaded down heavily on the Grand Canyon trip and a trip to the East Coast to visit family. I am very happy with the originals. I just priced an American Elite rear tire today at the local indy out the door for 125 less than the dealership. I figure the American Elite should be close enough and I don't need HD on the side of the tire.
I took the bike out to the dealership. They basically laughed and said the most *anyone* should expect to get on a limited was 6k miles. They said my 9500 miles was *way* past expected life. "In my 33 years of experience, I've never seen anyone get 10k miles out of a tire"
And my front tire was down to 3/32 so that should be replaced too.
Oh and they only stock Dunlops. If I want anything else they would order them for me but I should expect that it would take 5 business days to be delivered... So I guess I'm going to stay with Dunlops. I think someone said they're american made so at least they have that going for them.

Some guys don't have a clue... Old tire technology, new tire technology... These guys telling you this nonsense need to get with the times... Lots of clueless guys at dealerships...
