Did my 10k service. Was painless. Used the manual took my time even did the crank case vent bypass. Of course as I cleaning up I found one of the o rings laying on the floor so I had to take it back off to reinstall it. But went well. Can't believe dealer wanted 400 to do that. I usually did all my own service on my old bike and I'm getting more comfortable daily wrenching on this one also. I'm taking a 1k trip this weekend and next month a 4300k trip across the lower US. So hopefully I got it all worked out. Time will tell.
One question I did have during it all. Do you always change the derby cover gasket when your opening it up? The orginal one looked good but it was cheap enough and I already had it so I switched it out anyway along with the o rings on the plugs.
That works for me then. Next time just the o rings then. Thanks. This time it all came as a kit from the dealer so next time I'll just order a bag of o rings.
I always change the plug orings... But I rarely change the derby gasket for a couple reasons: A. There is no pressure behind it. B. If it "fails" you will get a drip, and you know where it is coming from, and will not drain all the fluid. ...but I've never seen one fail. Had a leak once, but it was on a home made gasket.
What he said, never had a reused derby cover leak but always replace the o rings.

Batman
You can get them at Lowe's..... IIRC they are a #41
I made the mistake and let the Stealer do the 10,000 mile check up . I got the bike home and noticed the primary plug was leaking ..... started checking still old grease still on the steering neck grease fitting .....what did they do, for the 400 clams ????? Now I have the shop manual and do all the wrench myself .

I promise HD doesn't make special orings....
Yeah I'd probably order them thru amazon or go to lowes. Which ever was easier to find. I didn't drink from the kool-aid now the OL that's a different story.
