As posted earlier, this is from the 2015 Electrical Diagnostic manual, pg 6-2, the most current I believe.

On Pg 6-73 under Cooling Relay Diagnostics : Description and Operation
the manual continues to show that the fans are controlled by a thermistor that monitors coolant temp. Fig B-16 Schematic shows the same, ECM output at 78A-3 #15 Coolant temp.

The 2014 owners manual states the same but the 2015 owners manual mentions ambient temp but no specific temp.

I'll see if I can get an answer tomorrow, it would be nice to think the manual was up to date.

Must have been up too late last night to have brought the fans into question.....

Called the HD Tech line and they confirmed that the AAT > 80* will activate EITMS on Faired Models, Non-Faired continue to use ET > 288*f

The tech said they will make note of the omission of the AAT control in the Manuals.

Picked up my 15 SGS last week and I saw in the Info screen it's disabled. I haven't turned it on but maybe I will before leaving work today. I didn't realized until I saw that screen that it could be turned on and off.

I founded out pretty quick that my 14 was different than my 09. Every time I stopped it ran rough. Disabled it!! I have my own heat management, If I get stuck and sitting too long I cut the engine off. Works great.

+1 on that management system. I have another one: On hot days (greater than 90 degrees) I don't ride on roads where I have to stop for very long. Simple math:

Air cooled = Air moving
Air moving = Bike moving
Bike moving = Staying off congested roads
Staying off congested roads = Better ride!!!!

I turned it off the first day I rode the bike. I did not like the way it sounded or felt.

Default Aat>80

AAT>80, that's the key to all of this. I've had the rear cylinder drop out at engine temps just over 200. Never saw anything stating that AAT>80 or ETS>280 would trigger the rear cylinder drop out. I only saw data referencing ETS>300.
