When I decatted mine. I used. 1/8 inch wide grinder wheel cut half the pipe. Turned the pipe over set a slight stagger and cut the other half of the pipe. Removed all the cat. Used the stagger to realign the pipe and tig welded it back together. I Installed a fuel moto micro tuner for my tuner. it plugs off the o2s to bypass them completely. No cross talk allowed. Works great. Runs great and you can't hardly see the weld line.

I decatted just over a week ago. Got rid of that crazy heat under the floorboard. Bike still runs awesome, no bad side effects, in fact it feels better but anytime you work on the bike you always think its does. (*L*)
I do have a XIED on order, should arrive today, Im on the fence if I want to richen the fuel mixture a little or not, bike runs so well but I hear, I may be able to get rid of that very low end "stumble" (for lack of better words) when taking off in first gear and maybe get rid of a little bit more heat. I guess by the weekend Ill make up my mind if I try the XIED. Only takes minutes to install but once I open them I cant return them.

One thing unmistakable is the better exhaust sound, now has that deep Harley roar. Not loud by any means but more substantial for. As one person said "now it sounds like a Harley"

Removed the mufflers and heat shields.

I didnt cut and weld, didnt remove the pipe from the bike either, didnt remove the O2 sensors. I just drilled, I also measured how far the drill would have to go to hit the 02 sensors and the drill chuck would have to be inside the pipe. However, I do recommend removing the sensors, I got lucky I could see how a piece of the CAT could break off and hit the sensor. Took about 2 hours start to finish.

Here is what I used... from Home Depot

1-1/4 and 1-1/2 Paddle Bits<br/>12 inch extension

Used the 1-1/4 as much as possible then the 1-1/2 to clean up and get as much remaining.

I measured about how far you would have to go to hit the 02 sensor. You do have plenty of leeway, I recommend removing them as you drill, even though I didnt.

I'm not a fan of the factory design and if I didn't go with a 2 into 1 Pro Pipe, I would have gone with VH Power Duals. Given that states are increasing/enforcing more restrictions each year, it won't be long until we're all forced back to factory or EPA approved exhaust. I plan to keep the factory exhaust intact because when/if is comes to that, people will be scrambling to find/buy factory hardware.

You can put a lot of the blame on throttle blippers and the straight pipe crowd. I don't comment, but just shake my head when I see threads like one recently "Loudest Duals out there".

I don't disagree with you. The option I chose worked to be a balance between what I wanted and what I wanted to spend.

I do however still have my stock head pipe in case emission control inspects catch on in the bike community.

Having opened one of these things up and knowing how difficult is was to remove ALL of the cat - there is NO WAY drilling can come close to removing all of the cat and I would be concerned about loose bits left behind.

this is when I did mine a couple years ago. it was on a 2012

My opinion is...its worth it just for the amount of heat loss. however the bike did flow better and overall seem to run better. with that said, it all depends what tune you have in your bike.

Since then I have installed a PV and installed several different tunes and capitalized on the auto tune feature.
