You're 100% correct. And it still looks better set up for solo without the detachable quick connect kit. Just my opinion. And I wouldn't put Loctite on those bolts. Everything doesn't get Loctite if it's torqued correctly. And if you shop around, you can pick up the Fillerz at $190.
Haven't found Fillerz below $200. Better sharpen my search skills.
Had that kit installed by dealer before delivery on my wife's Limited Low just make sure to keep the wires off the rear fender cause the black plastic piece holds the wire connectors off the fender gets eliminated. Those lights on the bags look great but without TP your wife has no music or communication or at least MOCO doesn't have any solution for it.Also need to purchase CB antenna relocation kit unless you've negotiated in the deal.

Its aluminum actually, unless you mean the little xmas tree clips. Regardless, you can retain that feature with the detachable rack - just take the stock fixed TP bracket and cut off the forward part (6-8" with the shelf)) which you can then bolt to the bottom of the detachable rack. I only which HD had put the slots for the xmas tree clips all on the TP side so they could stay attached....as it is they have to be removed every time you disconnect.
Heres my perspective of the HD Quick Release DetachableKit.SAVE YOUR MONEY.The Rushmore models are set up so that youcan easily have both worlds without spending the extra money and its will lookbetter in the end.
The Touring line prior to 2014 required the detachable kitto get rid of the unsightly Tour Pak bracket when you removed the TourPak.On the Rushmore models, there is nobracket when you remove the Tour Pak providing your unbolt the tour pak bracket from the fender supports (behind the saddle bags).Theres only 4 bolts to remove the Tour Pak from the fender supports, then just unplug the electrical / antenna connectors and wrap them under yourseat and youre finished. When you wantto ride two up, reinstall the tour pak, torque the 4 bolts to 25-30 ft-lbs andplug in the electrical/antenna connectors. Too easy.
The only catch the license plate.I had my local HD shop special order just theplate bracket from the Quick Release Detachable Kit (cost me $58).But honestly Im still not happy withit.Im in the middle of fabricatingsomething to relocate the plate below the brake light.
A buddy of mine works at the local HD Shop and he gave metwo inserts that go into the fender support brackets to use while the tour pak isnot installed. The same four bolts thathold the tour pak secure the inserts. These are standard OEM parts on every Streetglide and thrown away whenthey have the Quick release detachable kits installed. The shop has boxes of these just lying aroundbecause no one wants them.
Cons:You need a torxbit socket to perform the procedure and this isn't easily done on the road (removing the tour pak while staying at hotels).Dealing with the license plate.
Pros:Saves money;looks cleaner; thieves cant easily steal the tour pak when its installed with the quick release kit andyour staying at a hotel.
Pics attached.Redarrows indicate the inserts.Yellowarrow show the two up seat thumb screw.Thepic showing the bracket is the tour pak sitting on top my table saw, this showsthe tour pak bracket that goes inside the fender supports.
I'm glad to see someone is doing this. I haven't bought the tour pak yet, but don't want the quick connects since I have painted struts on the CVO. I made this rack for traveling that attaches like the passenger seat and should be able to use it with a tour pak. The bag I had strapped on the seat rubbed on the bag lids of my '13 street glide. I made this rack 15" wide to prevent that. I use a Harley travel bag.
Dealer installed it yesterday. They were looking to do the CB antenna, but I said to skip that.
Love it!! This is one sweet ride. My Mustang Summit Seat is staying on.
One thing- before this I was not getting a lot of radio stations and after the repositioned antenna install I'm getting them all.
I appreciate comment about other way of doing this, but I'm going to want to be removing it a lot, even on trips, so better to have the quick release.
Thanks for the update. I'm definitely installing the kit, but I'm not liking the antenna location or how the license plate sticks up. I know one can install the antenna in the fairing, but I don't particularly like the idea of having to drill holes in the fender to relocate the license plate like was shown in another thread.
Edit - BTW, if you don't mind answering, what did the dealer charge to install the kit?

I do mind, but I will since you asked. It is stupid high. 560 something for the kit and I got out the door for like 875.
It was a birthday present so OK. Also, the folks at this dealership have been pretty good to me over the years and I saw this purchase as a main one for me.
Since I was cool and answered I would appreciate limiting for any "Dayum!" comments from the peanut gallery.

Making you uncomfortable was the last thing on my mind when I asked. I appreciate your answering. I asked because the dealer I use quoted me 2-1/2 to 3 hours labor at $90/HR, so that's about in line with what you paid. I like working on my own stuff, but this kit is not something I would particularly look forward to installing. Again, I appreciate your answering. Thanks!
I bought the detatch TP and solo seat as soon as i bought my ultra. Ya it was about a $1000 extra, but what the hell.. On top theres the 6.5 add on, ventilator a/c, pro pipe black, pro tuner.. Figured why not just get what i want in a bike...
