Default Manifold Tightening Sequence?

I don't have a service manual quite yet but last night I had to remove my exhaust and reinstall for timing cover replacement. Anyway I installed with new manifold gaskets and the front cylinder was leaking so I loosened everything realigned the front and tightened as old specs ask for (tighten front then the rear then go to rear cylinder tighten lower then the upper) and now the rear is leaking. Not sure if I should loosen it all again and start over or just loosen the mounting bracket and rear cylinder and realign? I think where I went wrong was I tightened the upper on the rear cylinder to tight before starting the lower and now the manifold clamp may not be flush? Does this sound like a good plan? Looking for advice so I don't have to keep doing this. I had the exhaust gaskets from a fuel moto kit and they seem to look different than the ones I removed that were factory. Could these be bad crush gaskets? Thanks

Damn thing keeps leaking no matter what I do it seems. The gaskets I am using are the newer style maybe I need to go get the oem crush style ones?

I will check my manual tonight when I get home, unless someone else hooks you up first.

If I recall and I don't know if it matters but all the ones I have done I have started with the rear top, tighten the bottom to specs back to the top then the front bottem tighten the top then back to the bottom for final specs.

I am sort of thinking its probably the aftermarket style exhaust gaskets going to go pick up a pair of the oem ones tonight and try that. Thanks

Take a look at the flange that goes into the head. The Harley is for lack of a better description, beveled so the cone gasket works for it. If you had a V&H the flange is flat so their gasket or a HD Screamin Eagle gasket works best for them. Make sure the pipes are seated in the heads good before you start to tighten them.
Good Luck

Bingo I had the Vance Hines style gaskets and they were no good with my pipes. Went to the local dealer last night got the OEM style cone gaskets and viola good to go no leaks first go at it. Thank for the help guys
