Late last evening I pulled the rocker box apart, AGAIN, and forgot which push rod goes where????[:@]
I am working on the rear cylinder. One has three stripes, and one has one stripe. The service manual doesn't really state stripe coding except to say exhaust/intake etc.
Look at the engine...the exhaust on the rear cylinder comes out at the rear of the head so the valve is located there. The rear pushrod on the rear cylinder is the exhaust and the front pushrod on the front cylinder is also the exhaust. The two inner pushrods are intakes for both cylinders..... What were you doing in the rocker box?
Pink in the exhaust and brown in the intake. The lines of color are markings for the length of the rod......three strips are longer rods than one with one strip. Not worry about the strips...pink in the exhaust and brown in the intake.
Hmmmm, that's a melon scratcher. Lay em on a piece of glass and tap on the corners to make sure they are absolutley flat. Check the mating surface for nicks or cracks ect. ect. Make sure you tighten down evenly, even if that takes 1/4 to 1/2 turn at a time on each screw, and don't over/undertighten. If that don't work, stuff a rag in there and say F it.
You warped them by over tightening them to stop the leak. Do the glass for the flat surface as mentioned before to check for rocking or warps. Just like on the 3 bolt derbie covers. Riders over tighten them to stop a leak and end up warping them. On mine. even with new gaskets. I lightly and thinly coat the gaskets with silicone. Let it dry and then just give another light coat on one side of each gasket to allow it to stick to the cover. This way,.. if I need to pull them apart. The gaskets remain stuck to what cover I decide it to be adhered too. Plus during assembly. theres no chance of gasket coming loose while installing.
