There is a nylon washer that clips on the threads of the bolt after they go through the hole in the bag which keeps them from falling out when taking the bags off.
I gotcha. Nice feature. I was thinking that it went on after the bolt and bag were mounted and I knew that wouldn't work....my mistake.

I just finished putting these on, cost a little more than the hardware store but you can't beat the convenience of a **** and they have a lock that prevents them from falling out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s00
Yeap... this is the way to go!!! Better than Harley's Recall replacement.
I figure the people who take the time to think of these things and come up with the parts to do it deserve some reward. I don't mind buying the stuff from them. You can definitely do it cheaper from the hardware store.
On my '10 Street Glide I had the Brukus. They work great, but are a bit of a PITA to put on and off. You have to use their tool.

You can go to Lowes and buy what you need for about 3 bucks.
I did it for under 2.
I am one that always trusted the Dzus fasteners, but after the recall decided to put a bolt in, so I went to Lowes and bought 2 extended 5/16-18 clips, and use bolts and washers I already had.
But since I've never trusted a bolt to stay tight by itself, I still use a Dzus pin in each bag..... call me undecided.
I also went with these, except i purchased mine at lowes less the $4.00, bought 2, one for each bag, placed on the front and using existing pins. If these pins fall out the bags aren't going anywhere.
This is also what I'm going to do. Had just clips on my SG for 36,000 miles, never had a bag loose,, made sure this bike had the recall hardware installed before I bought it. Still a little worried now,, lol

Yeah, but did you get a proprietary installation and removal tool? Hmmmm?
