There are times where I will sit the garage with playing around the Infotainment Boom Box with various USB flash drives with always getting the lock up problems. Then the next day when I plug a USB flash drive in, the Boom Box plays the music without a problem for awhile and then locks up again. This has progressively worsen over time to the point I would like to get it fixed.
Have you tried different brands of flash drives? I've had problems with some brands in the past on my computers and some of them just wouldn't work properly. So far I haven't had a problem using SanDisk with the Boombox.
Just a thought, but in what format is the music you are attempting to play? .mp4; .mp3; .aav; .wav; .wma; .aac? It may be an incompatible format since it doesn't seem to work well on any drive.
Have you tried borrowing a populated USB from a friend that works on their bike? Or shared your problem USB with someone else? I think doing this will help document whether you have a media issue or a radio issue. If you can demonstrate it's not the media but really the radio, it should build a strong case for warranty replacement.

I have tried PNY, SanDisk Cruzer Glide, and a couple of generic USB flash drives. I have plenty of USB flash drives now and this is when I decided I cannot keep buying USB flash drive for something that is supposed to work on the FLHX.

My friends all have older Harley's or non-Harley's where they cannot test it for me. I have tested the USB flash drive to make sure there are no bad sectors or other problems. All of the USB flash drives are error free.
The Master tech at HD Thoroughbred and I have been discussing this problem for some time. The tech previously suggested trying different USB flash drives and this has made no difference. Including the Boom Box software updates (from 1.17.x to 1.19.1).
Ask the dealer to plug USB in to a bike on the floor. That should give an idea of what the problem is. Good luck.
The problem occurs frequently with any of the USB flash drives I have that it is definitely related to the Infotainment Boom Box. I understand what you are saying here. The problem may occur immediately when switching the the Media player or after a while of playing music.
I picked up the bike tonight from HD service. They have ordered a new USB cable for the 14 FLHX to see if it is the cable. HD wants to see if the problem still occurs with a new USB cable connection before replacing the Infotainment Boom Box (4.3 Std). I agree as USB connectors can go bad. Installation will be some time next week and time will tell if it corrects it or not.
I just want the Infotainment Boom Box to work like it should. When I first bought the FLHX Street Glide, I did not use the Media player that much until I got used to listening to music. Now if I don't have music playing, or the radio on, it seems like something is missing.
