I am looking for a power source on the bike that doesn't have a voltage drop during startup, or a way supply a temporary 12v power source for about 15 seconds or so. I had thought about using a capacitor and diode but that is as far as my knowledge takes me. Here's the reason:
I have added dash cams to my 15 CVO limited and 15 Road King. They work great except for one feature. The auto power on feature works, so long as you don't turn on the bikes main power and wait more than about 5 seconds to start the bike.
What happens is, the camera gets power and then automatically starts recording. When you start the bike, the current/voltage drop is enough for the camera to think that power has been disconnected. The camera then goes to shut down but doesn't completely turn off before the bike start sequence is complete and power is restored to the camera. At this point, the camera doesn't start recording again.
I have thought about:
1. Using a capacitor and a diode but not sure what I need and how to wire it.
2. Hooking straight to the battery and adding a switch - This would work until the first time you forget to turn off the switch and drain the battery.
3. Contact manufacturer for some sort of firmware update
Install a time delay relay for the camera. Then your camera will never see the voltage drop from start procedures.
Thanks, I had thought about that but am unsure if the bike starting is enough of a voltage drop to get the timer to restart it's delay. Guess for $10 for each one, it may be worth a shot.

Trying to think of something that needs a run signal for power.
The fuel pump comes on when you turn the Ignition on but shuts off after 2 seconds if there isn't a input from the Crank Position sensor. Once you hit the starter the CKP tells the ECM the engines turning and fuel pump gets powered up again. Would it work if you took the power from the fuel pump and waited for the camera to power down before you hit the start button?
good luck
Power the Dash Cam from the Aux Connector under the left side cover on your CVO and ad a button to your Left Side Dash Switch Cluster and turn on after bike is running. On the Road King, I believe there is a similar set-up.. Need to look at my Shop Manual
