Could easily be done using the dealer's Tech2. With a simple change in the software, it could be menued just like the option for spots on with hi beams so any knowledgeable dealer tech could make the software change in conjunction with installing correctly marked switch buttons. Problem is the Mother Ship engineers' have too big of egos to allow this to happen, regardless of how many customers crash because of their faulty design. Just pi$$es me off...

The biggest gripe I have is the PTT button on the throttle side. Before reading this thread I thought there has to be a way to switch the function of the PTT button and the Cruise control button so that the PTT operation will be moved to the left hand. I'm a little disappointed now reading this thread and seeing it can't be done without the intervention of Harley for reprogramming. It just seems so logical to have the PTT on the left side. You set the cruise control for a quick second but you are using the PTT and holding it down for a longer time frame to talk and having to operate the throttle at the same time just boggles me as to why they would think this is safe....

I hope someone comes up with a solution or Harley realizes this and offers up the software change to make the switch between the two buttons.

Yeah its different, but I really don't have a problem using the CB switch on the RH side.

I have a bigger complaint with the odometer switch on the top on the left side -- that tends to be where I rest my hand.

I think my biggest issue is that my fingers are short so my reach to the button and keep the rest of my hand on the throttle to maintain speed is the problem. When I'm using cruise control there isn't an issue but for in town riding is where I need to operation the throttle that is where i have an issue.

I truly wish the mileage rest button was the push to talk button as that one makes the most sense based on location.

I sometimes say - Grin and Bear It - but, in this case, man, you guys are 100% correct.

Unless you push that think it straight, you might also change the squelch. So, on the throttle, hit the button and all sorts of things might happen. Even on cruise.

FWIW... the talkback feature didn't mean you were transmitting. You didn't hear the transmission, but rather what the mic was picking up. Basically going straight from the mic to the speakers, but not necessarily out through the antenna.

I understand you liked the feature, just trying to color in some of the rest of the page or you.

I have never used it, maybe I should try it. However, I like hearing the bike speakers rather than some stuck in the side of a helmet IMO

Default Stupid PTT switch

I am going to pile onto this one. This is the single most aggravating issue on this bike for me. I have 12k miles on my 15 FLHTK. I avoid using the CB because it is not even safe.

With manufacturers that KNOW CBs, (J&M, Honda, Autocom etc) the PTT is an appendage that sticks out so that all you need to do is lift your left index finger and it is right there. Even easy to use when pulling in the clutch.

With this POS, I have to move my hand back from the throttle some, look down to see it and then end up changing the squelch anyway instead of transmitting.

Try doing this in San Fran while stopped on a stupid hill while looking for traffic and letting your buddies know what is coming up. Can't be done. But, on a J&M supplied CB, that is not an issue at all.

Poor design. If it took an entirely new ECM to make the software changes to move it to the existing odometer switch, I would gladly pay for the mod.

Harley, please make the change and retrofit it for us instead of making us purchase a 2017 just for a new PTT switch design...

I agree that the ptt switch should be moved but it works when I do use it so that's a plus in my book.
