They can't void your warranty. They can deny a warranty claim. I pull a trailer. My dealer told me if I have a drive train issue, take the hitch off before I bring it in.
Not true, If a factory rep sees your bike with a hitch he will write the vin down and void the power train warranty in the computer.
just like a tune, if you change the load/power they can void the warranty on the system. I always carry tools and could pop the hitch off on the side of the road if nec, but never had a issue. Mike
A lot of "conjecture" here ... They said ... I heard ... I knew a guy who. I would venture a guess that none who have replied ( so far ) have had a warranty claim denied due to a hitch being on the scooter. I would further venture a guess that the "Mother Ship" would have a hard time denying a warranty claim on a part of the scooter that was not affected by the installation of a trailer hitch or the towing of a trailer. Just doesn't make sense. Furthermore "voiding" a warranty would be a situation that would violate all kinds of laws. So, there you have my "conjecture" :>)
I can see the additional load on the drive train argument, but would that be any different than 2 smaller riders w/trailer vs 2 large riders w/o trailer? (Suggesting the total weight being identical in either scenario)

I can not speak about the Factory warranty - however - the Harley ESP has it right in the contract - No Trailers - I called and spoke to the underwriters - I ride with the PGR (Patriot Guard Riders) I used a receiver hitch to carry my Flag holder - was told that IF I had an issue and the inspector saw a receiver hitch - it WOULD cause a problem..
Yes, I could carry tools and take it off - however - not all that easy - just choose to sell the hitch and now the flag holder - on to plan "B" for PGR

Well that's what I'm saying, they could deny a claim, they cannot deny the entire warranty. They write my vin number down but they are not going to deny a claim on my infotainment system because I have hitch. But your right, a hitch can be reason to deny a drivetrain warranty claim whether the trailer had anything to do with it or not.
btw, the owners manual does say don't pull a trailer.

No conjecture here. No "he said". No "I heard". Actual, factual from "it happened to me". ESP was CANCELLED because I had a hitch on my bike. Engine rebuild cost me $6300 out of pocket. And they didn't want to refund my cost for the (unused) ESP either. Dealer fought for me & got back the cost of the ESP.

An extended service contract ( ESP ) and a manufacturers warranty are two totally different things.
I was told by my dealer the warranty on the drive train would void if was to put a hitch on my bike. I built a small trailer very lite in weight (HF Motorcycle Trailer and Sears cargo carrier) to put camping gear in. I hope I never need the warranty, but just in case I do I won't be pulling any trailers at this time.
