Went riding yesterday to try out my new heated gloves. Temp was 29 degrees. Started bike (14' SGS) to warm up, everything was good. Got on to ride a couple of minutes later and screen was blank. This has never happened before. Couldn't get it to come on. Restarted engine twice, still no screen. Rode to restaurant to rendezvous with riding buddies. Hour later we started ride. Screen came up. Temp was probably around 40 degrees. No problem rest of day. Anybody else experienced anything like this.?
As an aside, the HD heated gloves worked great. No more Numb fingers.
Last year, same behavior you described. The bike was in the garage and temp was in the low 20's. Got on the bike to ride to work and the screen did not come on. Later that day, got on the bike to ride home and temp was in the mid 50's. Started the bike and the screen came on just fine. I took the bike in the following weekend to get checked. The technician did not find any issues and I have not experienced the issue again. I figured the issue was induced by the cold that morning.
Had the same thing happen to my screen also. Only difference was it was about 70 degrees. Bike sat for about 2 weeks ( not on tender). cranked a little slower than normally, Bike started ok, but screen black. never did get back that day, even after several key off attempts. Next day and ever since, issue has never returned. Had dealer check. Found no problem, but did a radio software update. Still makes me wonder if it will return when needed the most? As I have the nav. system to travel.
1st I heard of this issue, temps are finally starting to feel like winter time here in the south . I will keep a watch for the blank screen and the temp if it happens.
I have had it happen several times on my RGS, dealer can't track it down...they hope a future software update might fix it.
Yes, it usually does happen when I need the GPS on a trip. Usually it will come back on if I shut everything off and let it set for 5 minutes. A couple times I had to let it set for over an hour.
Have you updated the software? This was a common problem with early software, mine did it but last spring when I downloaded the update it quit doing it. The updates are available on the HD website.
Good luck
With mine the radio comes on when key is turned on, then as soon as I thumb the start button, the radio disappears. If I turn everything off, it will come back after 45 seconds.
First thing the tech did was pull the Maxi fuse, all I got was a unset clock, no fix.
SW up to date. Techs are stumped, don't want to replace my radio.
Mine happens in any temp, about 25% of the time I ride.
Yeah, I am up to date on the software. Hopefully it's just a cold weather quirk. Doesn't sound like the dealers have had much success finding it. I may try pulling the maxi if it happens again. Thanks guys, for the responses.
