Default 2-into-1 or slips?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some feedback on exhaust systems. I just recently purchased a 2015 FLHTKL and at the top of my list of to do's are the exhaust and a/c. I've never ran a 2-into-1 before and am curious to what configuration you are running. I've read some of the threads on slip on mufflers and like the sound of the Rinehart 4" as much as the V&H OS 450's. My dilemma is which direction to go with replacing the header. I've ran true duels in the past and did not like the loss of low end torque. I'm not planning on doing anything more than a stage 1. Will I need to purchase a tuner or will I be good with a 2-into-1 and a/c? Or should I just put slips and an a/c on? Thanks for your feedback in advance.

I run the V & H pro pipe and you will notice more bottom end with the 2 into 1. I changed it out to power duels with slip ons just because I wanted a different sound. I would call Fuel Moto and talk to those boys. They will answer all your questions correctly.

You will definitely want to look into a tuner especially if you change the A/C. A 2-1 system is the way to go if you are into the best performance. They tend to be on the loud side but if you don't mind that then it's not a problem. I think Vance & Hines offers a quiet baffle for their Pro Pipe though and they are a beautiful pipe. A good 2-1-2 head pipe from Fuel Moto or Vance & Hines and a good pair of slip ons will give performance pretty comparable to a 2-1 with many more muffler options. It really comes down to personal preference.

It all depends on personal preference ,I like the 2-1. I run a dragos dragula 2 ,it seems to be mellow at cruise but will raise Kane when you twist the throttle. Also the V&H pro pipe sounds good to. Make sure you get a tuner you won't regret it.

I run a V&H pro pipe on my 14flhx. Love the sound and it was around $600 from fuel Moto. They also have good deals on power packs (exhaust, intake, tuner) with support.

I hate the sound of the 2/1, and I've had two. And on a stage 1 bike, the power gains from a 2/1 will be negligible. My bike runs out very strong with the stock head pipe, slip-ons, A/C, and tuner. It will easily run with my pre 14 107 bike with D&D Fatcat 2/1 and sounds much better doing it.

Unless you are throwing a bunch of $$ at power mods, skip the 2/1.

Exactly. Well said, plus you pretty well have to buy a ghost pipe to complete the un-balanced look. $$

Regarding the sound of 2/1 pipes, I think there are many that like the sound, myself included. Of course, sound is a personal preference. And, I'm not sure I agree that the power gains are negligible. IMO, a 15-18% power gain is fairly substantial. Throw in the right cams and the increase in performance is noticeable.

Those charts show going from bone stock to a stage 1 using 2/1s. Post up one the ones that show the E-Series 2-1-2 or even stock head pipe with slip-ons and the PV2/AC combo and I'll bet the difference shrinks if not disappears.

As far as sound - agreed - subjective.

To me, the 2/1 takes away from the Harley sound by condensing it into one speaker so to speak. That, and damn near went deaf in my right ear from the Fatcat. To me it was like a jackhammer on the right side of my skull. The Supertrapp was significantly better noise wise, but I lost power from the D&D.
