Default Force software update??

2015 CVO Road glide Ultra, I've downloaded the 1.19.2 update, saved to 2 different USB keys. Turn on the bike, turn on the radio, plug in the USB, and nothing happens. The system will import and export to the USB so it recognizes it's presence. I have updated before from at least one of these usb keys, so they will work.
Is there a way to force the system to read the USB key and initiate the update??

My guess is that you did not understand the directions. I added line 3 to the directions below.

Download the latest software version from harley-davidson.com
1. Select "Download Software Update" for the appropriate system.
2. When prompted, save the compressed file to your computer desktop.
3. UNZIP THE FILE THAT YOU DOWNLOADED
4. When the download is complete, copy the file within the un-zipped folder to the root directory (the first or top most directory in a file system) of a USB flash drive that is 8 GB or larger.
5. Turn your vehicle's ignition switch to ACCESSORY. (Keyless ignition vehicles: press and hold the trip switch for more than two seconds).
6. Turn on the audio system and connect the USB flash drive to the audio system's USB port.
7. The audio system will detect the new software available and ask if you want to update. Select “Yes”. The display will prompt you to remove the USB drive when the update is complete.

If you have the correct unzipped file on the thumb drive, the system should find it. You absolutely sure you unzipped the downloaded file and dropped it onto the thumb drive? I made that mistake once and it didn't read the drive or respond. Also try deleting all files on that drive, or even reformatting it and recopy. If that doesn't work, take it in, should still be under warranty in the event the audio system is faulty.

Well, that's most likely what the problem is, and I've porbably done it that way before.

So why, in the several sets of instructions that I've read, do NONE of them mention unzipping the file??
yes, it's something I knew had to happen, but I'm getting old these days..........

Thanks

Technical people have a really hard time writing directions for non-technical people.

Now I'm wondering why it's even a Zip file?? Unzipped it's a 1K text file that doesn't really say anything useful, and then the rest of the 849Meg file.
They could have shown shown the text file when you click the download button, and left the file as is.

Stupid engineers.

Are you sure your doing this right?
You really don't need that 1k text file, so don't worry about it.

And they zip the file to make the download smaller. The uncompressed .iso file is quite a bit larger than the .zip file.

The file you download has an extension of .zip and is 877 MB in size

Once you unzip it you end up with two files in a folder.
Only one of them is really needed as you know. The 1k text file is there just so you know the version information and p/n.

The important file and the one you copy to your thumb drive has a .iso extension and is 1.02 GB in size.

Example for the 6.5 Boombox

Download file: swdl_boombox_6.5GT.1.19.2.zip (877 MB)

After unzipping you end up with two files
swdl_boombox_6.5GT.iso
swdl_boombox_6.5GT.txt

Copy the .iso file to the root directory of your thumb drive.
