Here's a pic of my Dad, my sister and I going for a ride on his old BMW 750. We rode like that a lot too.

I'm sure he'd be in prison today with the way we were raised, but man what a fun childhood. Sis and I both survived motorcycles, bumper sledding, three-wheelers, lawn darts etc. Wouldn't trade those memories for anything. I miss my old man everyday.

By that age, I had mastered the art of sitting on my dad's knees to drive his old truck, and also the ride-on lawnmower. He didn't ride a bike or I'm sure I would have been sitting on that somehow too. But that being said, we lived in the country on a road with only local traffic. Also, times change. It's kind of a shame that the world is so fearful these days. As many have said, it was moments like that that you never forget... Anyways, to the OP, I think a ride around the block in first gear is a safe bet, but I'd wait until she fits the bike before going for an actual ride.

I had that harness myself my son started riding with me when he was seven. Remember when you were a kid 25 miles to 35 miles an hour was flying your sense of speed is so different than when you're an adult good luck!

When my daughter turned thirteen she started riding with me. We both loved every minute of it. Those are some rides I'll never forgot. Two years later I was t-boned, nearly lost my leg, & was a year recovering. Fortunately my daughter was not with me. I've been back on the bike for one season but will not take my daughter. To say she is unhappy with this is an understatement. I can't stop thinking; "what if she had been with me that day". My wife says I'm wrong, especially since every boy that comes along with a bike peaks her interest. The wife's opinion is that at least if she's riding with me, she'll be riding with someone who cares, will be extra cautious, and will look out for her. Another riding season is starting and once again it's on my mind again. I wish I knew the right answer. Good Luck

Raising children is one of those things that everyone will have an opinion on. You just have to love them and do your Best. Your decision will be the one that is right for Your family! Ride safe with and without Them!!

Every state law varies. My boys were each 2 when we first put them on our bikes. We lived in Indiana at the time, and there was no issue from LEOs. It comes down to being comfortable with them on the bike. If you are ok with them as a passenger (and your local LEOs aren't going to give you any trouble). Then the rest is up to you.

If you decide to ride a child, make sure they have all of the appropriately fitted protective gear that is prudent, helmet, leather jacket, boots, gloves etc.

The way kids grow this would get expensive. But every bit as necessary as your equipment/protective gear.

To do less would be negligent.

$hit happens...You cant hide in the corner because something might happen. When its your time its your time. Just ride defensively at all times.
