I'm 6'1" also and put a Harley tinted windsplitter on my 2016 SGS and found it was to low for highway speeds so I ordered a LRS Ultra Recurve 8" shield and it stops all buffeting but I have to look through the top of it which there is no distortion.I am going to purchase a 7" LRS Ultra now which I believe will be the best all around shield for me,Plus they are on sale for 49.95 plus 20.00 for shipping.
I also am 6'1" and have had a variety of windshields. I had the 7" recurve, or windsplitter, whatever Harley calls it. Wasn't tall enough. I finally settled on the 8" Aero from FastAire. Perfect. Can see over it, but glasses don't bounce around anymore at high speed.
Clearview ends buffeting. The fairing vent helped. But the Clearview shield ends it. Also helps passenger. I've ran them on 3 bikes. Never knew what buffeting was until I rode without one on my new 2015. Got my Clearview and it was gone. IMO
+1
I'm lucky enough that they are only a 45 minute ride, very nice ride into the mountains, from me. I have been there twice, great people! They let me and the wife test drive them till we found the shortest one that put the air over her head. We have two, a tall clear one that I look through the recurve without distortion(hence the name Clearview) that we use in the winter, and a shorter smoked one that I look over but still throughs the wind over both our heads, for summer. Highly recommend them.
Check out LRS i.e. Long Ride Shields. They don't overprice like every other windshield maker does and they are Made in the USA. Sparks Nevada to be exact.
LRS for me FLHTK i have a selection of them. For bar to bar riding four-inch Dark tint 8" medium tint 10" medium tint 12" clear which I just put on today and it is outstanding stopped my head buffeting and also really quieted down my modular helmet. This is my first modular and it was very loud with wind noise which I thought was normal. today it was quiet I could hear the face shield and helmet creaking from heat expansion. And my music didn't have to be cranked all the way up to hear it at 70 to 80 mph I'm 6'1 but it depends how long your torso is. The 12 inch probably comes to my upper lip at riding position. Hope this helps.
I tried so many on my 15 sgs, from 6" to 16". Harley, wind vest, Memphis shades. Once I got over the 8" mark nothing seemed to improve beyond that, the air that is annoying seems to be coming up from over the lowers, under the fairing and blowing straight up when it hits me. I added the hd adjustable fairing wind deflectors too. Nothing for wind, but they look ok.
I'm 6' 1" and 210, use the stock seat and a 2016 road king seat for trips with the wife.
