Default crazy bolt size

I've been trying to find screws (button head) that are long enough to mount my Ram Mount drink holder on the clutch reservoir. Of course, being an American made bike, the HD has metric screws. Not only they, they have sizes that can't be bought - anywhere (at least that I have looked outside the dealer). These screws in particular are 6mm x 1.25 (pitch). Seems HD had them made special because three places I visited and several online shops say that doesn't exist. 6mm stops at 1.00 and 8mm start 1.25.

Am I going nuts? I really hate to have to go to the dealer and probably pay $5 a screw, but if that is the only place I can get them I guess I'll have to do it.

Any one else come across this problem? I can't use the original screws because they are too short.

Any help would be great.

Thanks
Mark

Huh...You got me looking and it DOES look like that is a total bastard in the metric world. I found taps and dies but no bolts/screws in m6 x 1.25! Looks like it is a common thread on Japanese bikes.

I'm no help here, but some things come to mind to try.

Try a 1/4"-20 and see how it compares, can it be chased with a standard tap size?
Would you dare chase it with a m6 x 1 and use a stainless button head?
Bite the bullet and hit up HD for a longer m6 x 1.25.

This sucks...at least HD's are not Witworth like the old Triumph.

Let us know what you do...

Try McMaster-Carr?

better yet, contact RAM. my GPS mount came with screws to fit there.

I looked around McMaster and didn't see any. If HD is not an option hit a Honda shop...

I got one of these for $15 bucks, it comes with the correct hardware. I use it for my Ram cup holder and GoPro.:

the front brake control bolts on my 2009 nightster and 2012 RKC were 6mm and 1/4-20, I could not interchange the long bolts when I swapped my boom audio from one bike to the other.
