What is the rubber thing for? Can you take a picture with the phone installed and the rubber thing in place?

It's the tether that holds the phone on. Just another piece to give you peace of mind. In my original photo I had it just thrown on. It's supposed to sit behind the mount, over the 1" ball
and wraps around your phone to keep it in place.
Sorry guys ... not to burst anyone's bubble, but I recall watching a YT vid where someone lost their phone with a RAM mount. I have no personal experience with one, but personally I wouldn't trust one of those. I went with the Tech Gripper so I can watch my coolant temp and such with my FP3 and it's awesome. It is a clean mount, very sturdy and my cheap android never even budged over the bumpiest of roads. It's the same, exact thing some guys bought at Law Abiding Biker (but don't buy from him, you're basically paying 50 bucks more for his fugly logo) unless you like paying almost double for what you can get it here for ... http://www.bikebandit.com/riding-gea...-kit?b=4131251
Just thought I'd share, I got one and just LOVE it. It's not big and gawdy looking like the RAM is either. I used the control mount and bolted to my right side so the charging cord easily lays around the master without tying it up or anything.

I have also seen where people lost their phone while using the Ram X-Grip. But they were not using the tether. Use it like it was designed and you will not have a problem.
This is the one I use. Can be put in place of the mirror acorn nut or in my case I have fairing mounted mirrors and just run the bolt through the mirror mount hole.

Well, unfortunately for me I have a Google Nexus Six and the Tech Gripper will not work. So it is the Ram Mount or my cut pocket.
Tether, tether, tether, tether.... I had been using my phone in an X grip for almost 2 years and 30K miles with 0 problems... and then it fell out in Colorado last summer. Life proof case and glass screen protector actually did a great job, the protective screen itself was shattered, the device screen was immaculate, but the dozen cars that ran over it didn't do the internals any good.
