We both ride very aggressively and still haven't found any in our HOG chapter about 200 members strong who wants to go cross country trips with us.
You guys are better than me. Congrats.

Well I was expecting some feedback maybe we are missing something about all these upgraded shocks since handling slow speed, fast curvy roads or daily city riding didn't make any big difference how the bikes behave much different with this or that shocks.

If you are happy with your current set up dont bother changing. I was to light for the shocks I had and made things worse going to stiffer springs and non custom dampening adjustments. To me the handling was horrible because the shocks were not working as intended due to my size. The Ohlins were the magic bullet I was looking for all this time, perhaps you have the magic bullets on your bike and do not need to look any further. My needs were dictatated by short inseam and light weight so I needed a custom solution which was in the end almost the same cost as a pair of progressive ultra touring. Chalking this up to learning experience on my end. All I know is I used say when are we getting to our destination now I say awe man we are there already? My buddies will tell you lately I have taking some fast corners pretty easily now. Way less fatique and just enjoy riding again! Kind of cool to understand how shocks work and how to set them up how I need them to be.

To make a figure 8 or a U-turn at 5 MPH, you don't need custom shocks, nor will it matter. Like the other poster, either we're missing something, or your paragraph on the first page about U-turns maybe got jumbled in with high speed cornering etc. Anyway, it looks like your happy & that's what counts.

I don't do figure 8's so I can't comment on that.
09 Ultra - I rode for years with the stock and frankly was quite use to it. I also pick up and repair a few bikes here and there as a hobby, so I usually have 3 or 4 bikes at any time.
I lowered the Ultra 1" with the HD air and progressive springs, it was OK but nothing special. Long trips rode the Ultra for obvious reasons, but found myself riding a Dyna or Softail for shorter trips because it was just less effort and more fun.
My wife has back issues and was beginning to ride with me less and couldn't go much more than an hour and a half without calling it quits, so I decided to make some upgrades.
I got a great deal on 1" lower Legend AXEO front and 12" Revo A's. The front is exceptional and the rear was much better, however after trying many setting I just didn't feel like it achieved what I was looking for.
I bought some 3-3's from Howard, did the set-up and read the instructions several times. Good but still not right. I did the pull tie thing and was getting best use of travel. Looking at the illustrations I had assumed the rebound had only 12 clicks, so I was trying btw the 4 - 8 clicks. Called Howard, we went through some things and after he realized I had a little competence He told me there was much more adjustment on the rebound and to start from closed and back off 16 clicks.
World changer - I found myself still anticipating jolts and not pushing hard into corners, I guess it's muscle memory, until I realized how much different it is, Plush ride and I can stick corners with any Dyna. Feels a little strange pushing into and pulling out of corners and actually playing on a 900 lb bike.
A lot of writing to say YES there is a difference, Yes it's worth it if you ride more than up and down your main street, and YES my wife asked what I had done because she wasn't feeling her back aching.
Finished it off with Mean City Cycles Double Memory Foam seat modification and I'm Golden.

If you are calling in and no one is on the line it is not a matter of what I want to do. Frank, you are a whole lot of fun to talk with but listing to many people wanting to know where their shocks they just ordered an hour ago will be shipped so you get the idea. My life is not my own and I truelly wish I had another 48 hours in my day along with not having to waste all of that time eating, going to the bathroom, and sleeping. I have always enjoyed laughing with you Frank. I would actually like to go outside and look at the sun other than rushing off to get shop supply's and parts. I would actually like to sit at a table to eat also and not on my work bench. I do this 7 days a week since before New Years including Christmas eve & day. I am just busy so by, I got to go back to work now.
Which is exactly why I am not calling until I am certain I have the jack saved up to purchase.... :-P I refuse to be the guy calling you and stroking your time unless I am certain I have all the info that you need and all the cash you need so that when we spend that 15-20 minutes on the phone that I am actually pulling the trigger at the same time so I am not wasting the precious little time that you do have...:-P

It could be worse Howard....you could be sitting around idle and waiting for people to call you...LOLOL

Rock On!!

I just finished a 6200 mile ride yesterday. While riding through NM, the roads were so bad that my lower back got wrenched bad enough that I ended up in the Taos ER. I couldn't walk, much less ride. Had to stay an extra night then suck it up and ride through the pain all the way back to Austin. I decided then and there that these POS HD air shocks had to go. I called Howard this morning and had a great conversation with him. I originally considered the 3-3's, but based on my answers to Howard's questions, he recommended the 2 ADJ's. I emailed the order this morning. I can't wait to get them installed. I leave for Colorado again on July 14th to ride Pikes Peaks HOG 5-in-1 High Altitude Poker Run on July 16th, so hopefully I will be on new shocks by then. I know he has to build them, and I am sure there are orders ahead of mine, so I will just keep my fingers crossed.

Also want to give a shout out to Taos Holy Cross Hospital ER staff. They are fast, friendly and very helpful. Was one of the few awesome ER experiences I have ever had!!!

EDIT: Howard at motorcyclemetal.com is awesome!!! Called him this morning and the shocks are shipping today!

I just had a terrible experience with Progressive 944 Ultra Low shocks.
The Shocks failed after 3 months and Progressive WILL NOT HONOR WARRANTY. (I'm 164 Lbs & 5'7")
After 3 months the shocks quit working. Really! They lost suspension travel whatsoever. The HD Dealer documented the failure. Notified Progressive. Chad, the Warrenty manager, said my "shocks work correct." They have less then 1/2 sag. HD dealer sent videos, emails & multiple phone calls. I personally spoke with Jorge & then Chad. Chad said if I wanted, I could take the shocks off (meaning I can’t ride), send them to him & he will verify thy are working correct. That means, I have to buy a new pair of shocks anyways. They will not authorize the HD dealer to install replacements because he is sure my shocks work.
I will NEVER do business with this company. EVER

Reading there product description, you would expect the shocks to be better then stock. WRONG! When they are talking about the travel they are including the bike weight sag. They bike pulls the shocks down 1 7/8”. That means they feel you should have less then 1/2” of shock of travel before you sit on the bike. The HD dealer put a 275 lbs man and 160 lbs man on the bike and it went down less then 1/2 inch… Progressive says, this is what they are designed for… many people say this is a good company. I must be special

I have 944 With heavy springs and I really like them. I'm not a fan of anything that says ultra low. Less shock travel is never a good thing.Spring rate also is critical .
