Default What the heck?

So, I'm riding to the office this morning and here comes another Harley.......

I'm concentrating on getting "the wave" just right, and after I did.....I noticed something hanging off of the bike.....

His saddle bag was open! I thought to myself, how can ya do that? He musta been stopped, grabbed something out of it and took off....

Surely he didn't throw his leg over an open bag....Heck, I have a hard time getting my leg over with them CLOSED....

It was a Street Glide BTW.....

My bag on my SG did the same thing, from that point on I left them locked...

I have never had my bag open like that. I keep my right side bag locked. I have a habit to check the latch on the left side every so often while riding. It has never been loose.

could have not been closed all the way. Get up to speed and it opens up when the air grabs it after hitting a bump or something. It happened to me once when the GF went in there to get something out of her purse and didn't shut it correctly. Got a new girl friend and haven't had the problem since.

The latch does come loose sometimes and that's why during the longer rides I keep them locked. It doesn't hurt to just take a glance every once in a while though.

Since the day I had a problem with a saddle bag fastner, I developed a habit in checking the bags before I ride. Sometimes while waiting at a light I will reach back and check also. I guess that's the only good thing that came out of that fastner problem.

I was cruising down I-45 heading home the other day about 75 MPH in the right lane of three lanes. In my rear view mirror, I noticed a motorcycle coming up at a pretty good clip. He had to be doing 80-85 MPH. He was in the far left "passing lane". As he passed, I took a glance (as I always do when it's another bike) and saw his left saddle bag lid flopped open. It was a cop on a cop bike. Of course, I had to let him know, so I got over in the middle lane trying to catch up with him. Luckily, traffic was pretty light at the time, so it wasn't long before I caught up with him, but I noticed I was doing about 95 MPH. I thought, oh $hit, but by then it was too late. As I caught up and passed him by about 10 feet, he glanced over at me. I thought for sure he was going to hit the lights. But, I was pointing down at my bag, then I pointed over at him and he got the message and slowed down to latch his bag lid. I, of course, slowed back down to 75 MPH and a few seconds later he caught up with me and gave me a thumb's up as he was passing me. Bikers gotta look out for each other, right?
