Better than the V-Rod's Revolution? I think not.

The only potential problem with the M-8 is that I don't have one.

Actually, I agree. I've been waiting for over a decade for the MOCO to put a "Revolution" engine (detuned or not) in a touring chassis. The M8 is as close as we'll get to a "Revolution Engine" in a Street Glide I think. At least for now. The MOCO just killed the V-Rod. They're stopping production as of October of this year I believe. Great engine, crappy chassis, really poor marketing. It kinda reminds me of when Chevrolet killed the Camaro. Nobody wanted a Camaro back then. They weren't selling. Therefore Ponycars were dead as far as Chevrolet was concerned. Except Ford kept selling every Mustang they could produce. Year after year. Back then the Camaro was a PIG. Huge. Almost as big as a Caprice. Yep it had a great engine (early LS blocks) but it was in a PIG of a chassis.

When developing the M8 there were too many "Harley Faithful" complaining that it's too smooth. Give me a break. There have been, and there will be more times, when the MOCO has to do what makes sense and ignore the "Harley Faithful", and I've been riding Harleys since '86. Other than dirt bikes, I've owned only Harleys since '86. Thats pretty "faithful" IMO. I've been riding motorcycles since '71.

When I bought my first Harley in '86, I went to both the dealer, still in business today, and an indy, there weren't many of those around in '86. I was looking for a pair of SuperTrapp slip ons (one of the early performance Harley exhausts). No one new what I was talking about. One moron at the Harley dealer even told me, "most of my customers just put on a set of drag pipes and are done with it". Yeah, "I'm sure those drag pipes make great torque" I thought.

Harley performance has come a long way since '86, but it's done so while bringing the "Harley faithful" kicking and Screamin' along with it. Pun intended. It's like the MOCO has to force good performance down their (Harley Faithful) throats.

I believe my M8 will last for the next 15 or 18 years until the MOCO develops a better engine. That engine will likely be similar to the V-Rod's current mill. Unfortunately, I'll be in my late 60's by then. I probably won't be able to pull a bike off it's stand. Oh well, it's been a hell of a ride...

The V-Rod is (was) truly a product before it's time...

....

Default Warranty

It would be nice, though never happen if MOCO would give BETA testers a longer warranty

Well just got the call and not real happy..motor can not be fixed I am told. A new motor is being expedited ( that's a joke too when we expedite something at work it's there tomorrow) for delivery next Monday. I am going to the dealership this evening or tomorrow to pick up a loaner and also talk with the Service mgr to see exactly where it was leaking. Also called HD customer service just to voice my opinion on the situation...what a joke..pretty much got told they will replace the motor as many times as they need to..So now I get a brand new motor put in a brand new bike by a Tech that has never seen either..man that gives me a warm and cozy..This just *******sucks.
And over on CVO Harley:

'm hoping its good as well. But stopped by the local dealer to look at the new CVO's and the one my dealer was riding at the dealer show was up on the lift with the covers off and gauges hooked to it. Oil light was coming on and they are not sure why?

Yep we Coloradans passed fully legal marijuana laws. Heck I voted for it and still support it today, but please, we would all appreciate if you put away the pipe before you make a fool of yourself on the www. Cannabis and logic rarely mix well.
Thanks for a good laugh!

I actually agree with you, though, in a way. 10 years from now, when they finally get all the glitches and design-defects fixed, it very well might turn out to be a good motor by then.

If you have actually spent tens of thousands of dollars to be an unpaid beta tester for the MoCo, then I salute you.

When yer Mommie's allows you out of her basement to ride yer shiny Harley, if you own one, please ride safely. And for goodness sake, watch out for all those pot-crazed drivers out there - they're everywhere!

Have a wonderful (and safe) day!

I know when I took the Factory Tour in Kansas City. The tour guide told us that the Quality Control Team each morning takes around 10 bikes right off the line. They then take them for a 25 mile ride. Any issues they find with the bikes they put post it notes on. Then the bike sits in the main lunch area for the next 24 hrs prior to being repaired. Also the worker who assembles that part has to sign the post it note.

Because assembly lines are not set up for studying QA/Design issues, the Manufacturers often have a secondary location to review them. The problem can be inspected by a R&D team, documented & hopefully rectified by Engineering. They try to make sure the public isn't aware of the site nor the issues involved so it's kept quiet.

Just read in Motorcyclist Mag, a rather large article on the M8. Says that the breather problem regarding spewing oil into the airfilter/intake has now been solved. They route it to the trans case! Hmmm.....very interesting!
