Not one to batch. Usually I try to find a solution. However this really passed me off. Dropped my bike off Saturday for some warranty work. Front Wheel bearing has been screaming
For the past 4-6k miles, 10k on bike. Just getting the chance to take it in. Also the front cylinder spark plug wire has rubbed through the insulation where it makes contact with the bike. Was told they would call me when it's done.
450 comes around and no call. I call and they say they are going to leave it on the showroom area since the service depth is closed, and I can pick it up tomorrow. NBD.
Drive to the dealer to pick it up today. First thing I notice is a nice long scratch clear coat deep on the fairing. Same sparkplug wire with the same red electrical tape I put around the chafing, and front wheel hasn't been touched. Wtf. So I address it and the sales rep comes over with the whom I imagine is the sales manager, never I trounced himself. Told me that the chafing is wear and tear, and the wheel bearings are fine it's most likely my tires. Man if I was a novice mechanic or w/email I maybe would have bought it. But **** no. I'm addressing the service manager tuesday. They are closed tomorrow. As of now, Fort bragg HD has lost all total business with me. And to mention, I brought my father In also to pick up a 17 rg ultra. That didn't happen.
The front wire should be fixed by them, many on the forum brought theirs in for that reason. It isn't wear and tear, it poor engineering that caused it to chafe.
Scratch on fairing, normally the service manager/writer is responsible for checking your bike over with you for cosmetic issues when they write it up. Hope you have a current pic showing no scratch.
Wheel bearings should still be good at your mileage, how do the tires look, haven't heard of any tires making a sound to be confused with wheel bearings, possible i guess but a sit down is in order.
Same wire issue on my bike - replaced under warranty. Tires are probably cupped...seems common on these bikes. I have the same issue and that's what mine was. I'll wear them out before replacing them and just live with the sound.
Yes that wire has been real issue on all the bikes except few of us put some sort of protection on it, it should be replaced under warranty and front wheel bearing noise you are hearing is actually tires are getting close to be replaced.Tires are fine for another 5K miles as long the noise doesn't bother you, but it drove me nuts replaced both tires but it was back again at around your mileage.
