Ok. I'm back from an almost 300 mile ride and I have to say I noticed a BIG difference. I was very skeptical that flipping the shock would do anything but I am amazed at the ride now. I have the setting at seven clicks (solo, 225 lbs, tools and gear) and the ride was awesome. Instead of gritting my teeth every time I saw a bump or railroad tracks I was actually looking for bumps to hit. If you're on the fence about flipping your shock like I was just do it. Takes 5-10 minutes and no jack. Just a 19mm or 3/4 socket. Seriously, after almost two years of owning this bike I felt like I had a new bike today. Thanks for all the input on this subject!
I bumped it down to five clicks on the way home but it felt too soft. Seven clicks is the sweet spot for me. I'm guessing 14-15 will be good for two up. Can't wait to try it.

My shocks are the OEM take offs from a 2016 RG, 12". The right shock does NOT look like this pic. My R/H shock looks looks like azdrumbles pic. There a different shocks, I don't know who gets which R/H shock.
RH shock changed from 2014 to 2015. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/new-r...5-premium.html
I bought new 12" shocks in 2015 to try, I found no ride difference. I then bought 13" shocks and they were better than the 12's for bumps.
The manufacturer of the shocks says they can go either way (not HD) so it really doesn't matter unless you're installing a detachable passenger backrest. If so, there's a service bulletin put out by HD saying they will flip it for you, if you can't or don't feel comfortable taking the 10 minutes to do it. There's no conspiracy here.
I was at a dealer today (5-22) they claim they never seen this before.
The service manual confirms the shock is upside down. They had no idea about the service bulletin.
Dealer called the Moto, Moto would not authorize the labor to correct the upside down shock.
The other day I had my right saddlebag off to check tire pressure on my 14 limited. I glanced at the shock and noticed that it was installed with the main fluid body at the bottom (unsprung) position. I thought who was the blockhead who installed ........wait a minute...I installed them. Opps. I double checked the installation instructions and sure enough the right side is supposed to be installed with the main fluid body at the top (sprung) location. After correctly installing it, I set the left side **** from 12 back to 4 (I weigh 195) like the chart in the instructions listed. I test rode the bike and it no longer bottoms out like it used to and rides better. I always wondered why I had to set the left side so high with these shocks because of their reputation. I know I am probably the only person to do this but just in case there is at least one other person out there who also has their premium ride right shock upside down, it makes it worth the post to help them. Ride safe.
Thanks for posting . I have a 2015 sgs that I could not get the suspension set for my weight (210 lb). it would bottom out, and ride very rough. I had to crank it to high setting, just to keep it from bottoming. I read a bunch of threads and watched videos, and most people said, flipping the right shock, should not make a difference. Now that I have the right side installed correctly, I have the **** turned in 6 full turns and I can't believe the difference it made. so thank you very much for posting this.
