Well, it took 80k for a failure on my 2014 Limited, but it finally did. Since the day I bought it with 3 miles on the odometer, shifting up from 2nd to 3rd had a bit of a grind. Many times over the last two years I mentioned it to my local dealer when it was in for service, and each time they were unable to reproduce the issue. As of yesterday, that is no longer the case.
While heading from Austin to Dallas for work, the bike suddenly felt like the drive belt was jumping teeth on the rear sprocket. I was cussing because I just had a new tire installed and figured the belt wasn't tight enough. Then I noticed that it only happened in 3rd gear. I limped it the rest of the way to Dallas then limped it home. Had a tech test ride the bike and was told that it appears to be popping out of gear then back in, and was definitely a transmission issue. Thankfully I have ESP.
Dealer is slammed busy, so appears they won't even get to start looking at it until some day next week.
You can get $75 a day (max $750) toward a rental under ESP. That might ease the pain of not riding while the bike is being repaired. I'm hoping this isn't what I have to look forward to. IIRC you had the clutch fail around 70,000 and now the trans at 80,000. I'm at 73,000 on my 14 FLHTK and fortunately no problems yet. But I do have the 7 year ESP just in case. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Yeah, I thought about the rental, but they only provide 10 days so I decided to wait until I am not on-call. No point wasting days when I can't go anywhere anyway, lol.
Personally I think this 3rd gear issue was a time bomb the entire time I had the bike due to the 2nd to 3rd shifting grinding.
I'll be interested in how many miles you get on your clutch pack. Mine never slipped, it just became increasingly difficult to down shift to first gear. I had planned on installing a Rekluse TorqDrive clutch pack when the time came, but unfortunately when that time came I was in Oregon.
Well, here it is. Man it's ugly. Here is what I was told, "Shifter fork bent, trashed shifter collar and third gear, new mainshaft as well. Essentially a full rebuild."
Thanks for the heads up. My 11 has 80k and has the exact problem you described. Mine makes 120hp and I ride it like a racebike. Im surprised it lasted so long. Gearsets available on Ebay and I think 09-16 are identical Might buy replacement or get grudgebox from Baker!
