I am not from TX but ride out there a good bit, I am sure some of the Texans here can give you more precise info. In my experience I usually see them blooming from mid March into the middle of April. That would also be an excellent time to ride in the area as the temps will be nice before the hot *** days of summer

I am actually a native of Leakey, where two of the three sisters intersect. Not much of a better place to stay to ride the sisters in my oppinion. this October we stayed at the YO in Kerville, and are booked at another Kerville place for Arpil.
I take a group (at least one) down there at least once a year. We've been doing in in late Sep early Oct., but the group has already made plans to go again in April. In the spring I am real concerned about rain, but would probably be the best time to see the blue botnets. the LBJ state park is there between Johnson City and Fredericksburg. I'm sure you know Lady Bird is responsible for a great deal of the bluebonnets.

You can spend a whole afternoon walking main street in Fredericksburg. Lots to see there. some awesome B & B's, and Enchanted rock.

If you wanna eat some BBQ your going to the right place. Our group ALWAYS MUST hit Llano, tx for some Coopers BBQ on our way down. There is an awesome bbq place in just about every town. See the Hog Pen in Leakey, and the Bent Rim is a must also there.

Summer time will be hotter than hell down there to ride, but also about the only time you can also enjoy the Frio River as it stays cold as ice.

possible places to stay. Leakey (Frio Canyon), Concan, Kerville, Bandera

I love Austin, (my sons name), but dont let anyone tell ya that's the Hill country. (although that is pretty much the beginning.) Gotta get down further south / west to see the true Hill country.

As a Road Captain for Cowboy Austin HOG, I have rode a lot of the Hill Country, and many times. I can help you with some ride routes if you like, or you can catch me when you get here and I will be happy to show you some good rides.

Chad pretty much hit it!

The beginning of April is usually prime time for Bluebonnets
Hog Pen in Leaky is closed
Bandera is my favorite place to stay if Hotel is your option. If you camp or use cabins I like Medina High Point Resort (formerly Koyote Ranch)

There are a lot of roads and towns to hit besides the 3 twisted sisters. Explore them all

Have fun and ride it like you stole it!!!

Great riding anywhere west of IH 35 between San Antonio and Austin. Reasons

1. I have yet to ride on a poorly paved road.
2. There is very little vehicle traffic.
3. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a burger/BBQ/beer joint.
4. The views are great, along with the biker friendly people here.

Good info here. However, I would say you need to plan to get out and see the Marfa lights and hit up Terlingua. You can make a nice route that catches that, the 3 Sisters and any other stops you'd like to make. I have a route map that was actually posted here that I copied and made a few modifications to it myself. April is a good time and the Bluebonnets will be out, good weather as well.

Modify this map and you can make a helluva road trip. On the southern swing, you can come out of Del Rio and wind up through Leakey catch the Sisters and some other nice roads.
