I've done the whole detach thing. I'll tell you what route i went and where i ended up. You will end up being there as well.

I bought the detach kit, $569.00 list at Boardtracker online for 20% off and free shipping, so $455.00 to my door. The kit comes with everything you need including the saddlebag lights, license plate mount and antenna relocate bracket. You can buy individual pieces but the required parts purchased separate cost more. You need some sort of add on lights for turn signals. You can buy the filler lights that go in between the bags and fender from CD, HD or Kury. Am about 299.99. By the time you add some sort of turn signal setup and a plate mount i think you'll find you spent more than the kit.

With all that said, you will inherently spend more than you think. After you get the tour pack removed, you'll hate the look of the stock seat unless you have a detach backrest. Also if you ride 2up, she'll want one anyway. So now you'll be buying one of those also. If you don't ride 2up and need a backrest ,you're back to hating the look of the stock seat. You will end up buying another, better looking seat.

So I'll tell you where I ended up. Detach kit, then the CD Fillerz with the kits bag lights and a LED taillight. Bright as hell!! I have a detach backrest and street glide seat. Then i got the solo tour pack rack when I tour by myself, which means I needed a solo seat. I'm afraid to add up what's spent.

Here's a few pics:
Trunk off w/ the SG seat and bag lights and I layed the license plate back
Solo rack with solo seat
Stock seat with detach backrest.

And a grandson!!lol

Yes , you will that stuff anyway. What I mean is instead of buyin the detach hardware and the detach mounting bracket just pick up some inserts from a SG (take offs ) install those in place when the TP is off. It takes 5 minutes to unbolt the 4 bolts to take the TP off. Buy the CD fillers or the HD ones for signals. I put my antenna inside the fairing. Used to run the tag below the saddle bag , later on I picked up a SG fender. Attachment 498120

I scoured eBay and found a street glide fender with lights and everything ready to go for about 200 bucks and then sold my fender for 200 bucks. Worked out very well and now have a nicer fender and works perfect.

You guys that re running the license plate bracket that comes with the detach kit, can you run a luggage rack made for the 4 pt docking hardware with that mount? Looking at photos I think the luggage rack would probably contact the plate. I'm thinking of buying a classic and permanently losing the tourpak but I'd need a luggage rack.

Ok guys thanks for the input so I have decided to go with the after market tour pack quick release and docking hardware $110, I will get a kit to hid the antenna in the fairing & and will be ordering the custom dynamics for rear signals so any ideas on a license plate holder. I guess the taillight lights up the license plate at night so I need something that mounts above the tail light? Thanks for all the help and please keep It coming.

If you look up the detach kit at hd website and download the pdf file for the installation, it should list by part number the individual pieces. If it lists the license bracket, you can order it separate.

Others here have replaced the taillight with a bottom window and drilled the fender to install a license mount.

Not sure what you are riding, but
$464 gets you everything you need at Boardtracker. Easy to install it all. You will spend more getting all the parts and pieces, probably.

I installed the hidden antenna. After 2 rides, I disconnected it and added the relo on the rear. Reception just plain sucked and I'm in a major metro. Leave town, get static. I'll sell mine next time I take the outer fairing off if anyone is interested.

2014 ultra I hate the space between the saddlebags so I am buying the custom dynamic fillerz so don't really want the saddlebag lights that come with kit and I paid $100 for the quick disconnect and docking hardware don't see any reason why I cant get a license plate mount and antenna relocation kit for less that $364 so in the long run I am saving most likely $250 give or take. Good money for other mods
