I've done Pennsville NJ to Port Orange FL. (Daytona) in a day several times, leave early say, 4-4:30 and arrive around 8:30-9. Point is, the auto train really saves no time but certainly adds expense.

Thanks..hopefully we can get the trip coordinated. It's my wife's work schedule that's holding us up.

That's a fun way to travel especially if you lay out the coin for a berth, which I didn't when I took it a few years ago. The seats are big and fairly comfortable though. We didn't take our bike but we saw a lot of them being loaded up.

The food is quite good and wine is included with dinner. I was told by an Amtrak employee that the Auto Train is the only Amtrak service that actually shows a profit.....

True, but you can't eat dinner, drink, get 8-10 hours sleep, and maybe some dirty train booty, doing it your way.

Riding a bike for 17 hours straight through with no rest to save 5 bucks sounds nice and all but train booty...

Yup..everyone should just ride 900 miles straight through. Just stop to fuel and **** and your fine. heck, if you don't eat you don't even have to stop to take a dump.
