I've taken my Limited on the auto train. They used the crash bars and it was very well secured. They did a great job making sure it was tied down and wouldn't move. Remember to put the security system in transport mode!!
The auto train is an Amtrak route that runs between Sanford, FL and Lorton, VA (basically Orlando to DC). You can load your car or bike and be at the other end in 18 hrs. We've done it once ad would do it again.

That's cool! Thanks for the info, I'm a western boy and didn't have a clue.
It's pretty cool. It takes a 2 day ride/drive and turn it into a 17-18 hr train ride. You leave later in the afternoon and are there the following morning. You can get seats or little bedrooms. We had a bedroom when we went and it wasn't too bad. Next trip I'll take ear plugs for sleeping. The food was decent. It isn't cheap though. The last time I checked it, for 2 adults it was $300 for seats, $500 for a bedroom, and $1000 for the big stateroom, plus $150 for the motorcycle. The only downside is the costs are not refundable if you have to cancel for some reason. They give you a voucher that is only good for a year.
We're thinking about a trip up north in June. Last time we started on the Skyline Dr in VA and rode the BRP to NC and then came back to FL. This time we're thinking about going north from VA and go up into upstate NY and PA and take a 8-10 day ride home to FL.
Exactly it takes one day off your trip each way and saves you on the hotel room that night. We are already taking a week off to do this trip, So using the train was a no-brainer
