There has to be some residue left in it, just not enough to measure. You're probably right, I'll use the Rotella, and ride down to pick up what I need, and change it myself when I get home.
I know I'll catch heat when I say that I don't have mechanical skills...my talents lie elsewhere, I'll I wish I had a mentor to give direction. Hell, I'd provide beer.
Is this your only means of transport??? Hell's bells, drive up in your cage to the dealership or favorite oil supply house, buy the oil, change it at home. No mixing necessary!
ETA: Ok, read further and see - you don't have a car (!!!).
5 quarts of amsoil headed my way now along with a new filter and o-ring gasket...there are worse ways to spend a rainy day....I could be having this issue 100 miles out in the middle of BFE with no cell/radio service while under attack from formations of skeeters the size of barn owls. Instead I get to sit here in relative comfort and enjoy a day screwing off on the internet before I get the bike up on the lift. Thanks all.

Tangent, harley manual used to say to mix diesel oil in emergencies if you ran out of Harley oil. Dunno difference. Are diesel hotter since 20:1?
I ran it I'm my tractor. Diesel folks seem to like rotella, and I can get it by the gallon.
IIRC this may have something to do with the EPA and the fact that Diesel engine oils, like motorcycle engine oils, are permitted under a "basket clause" of sorts which allows for blending in higher concentrations of things like ZDDP than you'll find in typical Automotive engine oils.
I could be wrong.

My manual says something like, "if for some horrible reason genuine HD oil is not available, you may use a oil rated for diesel engines (and gave the spec), but run, do not walk to your nearest Harley dealer and change it to Harley oil add soon as humanly possible". Or something like that. The MOCO is less than helpful in recommending oil other than their own.
I don't understand why some think it's an issue, there are 50/50 blends that are sold. I wouldn't think twice about pourin Dino oil in it. People worry too much about oil and what type, and weight etc. it's not just an HD thing, but a motorcycle thing.
I'm sure ther are some, but how many of you actually worry this much about the oil in your car?
I agree 100%! Just add the oil & don't worry about. But make sure it's the same manufacture.
