The bottom line is compared to the stock HD air shocks for the past 25 years anything is an improvement.
For me I am glad to not have to ever check air pressure or add air. No fittings and tubing to leak or break as I have learned can happen without warning.
The best thing however is the handling. I rode solo yesterday for about 50 miles on country 2 lanes that I have riden a lot. I can ride them now 5 to 10 miles an hour quicker. It tracks in the curves like I did not know was possible with a big fat touring HD.
Again if I knew 10 years back when I bought my first HD what I know today I would have spent money on suspension FIRST. Screw exhaust, chrome, seats, anything else. A bike that does not handle as good as it can or should does not need better performance!
HD should be ashamed for sending so many bikes out on the roads with these junk shocks! They created a huge aftermarket industry.

Not the cheapest on the market but an excellent product. Pick up the phone and call George or DJ and discuss it with them. I can tell you how impressed my wife and I are with both the greatly improved ride and the fantastic improvement in handling. They can explain what makes it work so well and their 40 year history in the business.
There is Progressive, Ohlins, Legend and Pro-Action to list the most popular. Do you research. I am sure you will be happy with any of these over stock.
When you feel the difference you will want to upgrade the front end next!
Here is an email I sent yesterday to George at Pro Action as a review for my Pro Action Shocks. I am going to share it with you just to show how I feel about their shocks no affiliation at all just a happy customer.
I just wanted to drop a line to let you know how satisfied I am with my Pro Action Shocks. I just got home from a 3000 mile ride on my new shocks and can't believe the ride difference between the air ride system I had on the bike and the ride I got from my Pro Action Shocks.
I rode two up with luggage and pulled my little Trailer behind my '14 Harley Limited and didn't even know the load was with me.
We rode to the west coast up the coast highway and into the Mountains. This thing rides like it is on rails no matter what kind of road we were on and they soak up the roughness of the road.
I am so happy I made this investment, best one in a very long time.

Now, get your fronts upgraded to cartridges and be prepared to write another email...
For those that went with Progressive did you go with Standard, Heavy Duty or Super Duty? Going to go with the 444s, but I'm 250 and typically ride one up with gear that gets me to around 300 or so. The wife rides at times with the two of us getting close to 400. But that is very rare when she rides, but she complains about the bad suspension with the air shocks, so changing will probably have her riding more. I'm thinking Super Duty, but concerned this will be very stiff when just riding myself. Thoughts?
