Default Question about checking oil level

Manual states that checking the oil cold the level should be mid way on the dip stick marking. I've checked it both hot a cold and either way the oil level is to the stop of the markings on the stick? I just had it in for an inspection at my HD dealer too.

Sounds like it's over filled. You should check your oil on the jiffy stand, cold, and the level should be about half way up the stick. If you're checking when it's hot on the jiffy stand, then the level should be all the way to the top mark.

I've checked it both hot and cold on the stand. Seems like it's the same level either way. No change.

Also I'm new to HD. When it's hot why is there more oil on the dipstick? Seems like if its hot it's been running so oil would be coating the engine components. When cold I would think the oil would be higher as it has drained down to the pan?

It was supposedly just changed before I bought it. Think I might drain it and go back with straight 50w for a few months anyway. Make sure the level is correct.

Yeah check it on the Jiffy Stand. I don't believe there is any marks on it for being upright.

There are marks for both jiffy stand and upright. But as stated above I am checking in on the stand.
