EXTREMELY Rare to have a saddlebag fall off but because of forums it does make us think twice about the possibility so nothing wrong for peace of mind replacing the pins.
I would question if the aftermarket items are better though, if there was an issue with them no one would ever find out because so little produced.
If i did anything I would do what Cosmic above did, get the 2017 Harley Version at almost the same price as aftermarket. You know the Harley version is on 10s of thousands of bikes and will be recalled if an issue, not so with aftermarket. I will admit, the new ones stick out quite a bit!
$40 is nothing to spend on a 20 thousand plus dollar bike to do it the OEM way.
EXTREMELY Rare to have a saddlebag fall off ... "au contraire mon ami" ... This happens with a disappointing degree of regularity ... even ( more so ) on the earlier units.
Alright folks it just happened to me!
I lost the left one on my '15 Ultra Low less than 3 weeks and 900 miles after bringing her home from a dealer. The recall "fix" was done and supposedly all was good.
The real BIG question is 'Will Harley Davidson Corporate honor their recall, stand behind it and replace the bag?" Anyone have any dealings with them on this matter?
Thanks in advance, Bill
Recall or not - $25 for ***** that WILL block your packing that bag..
As suggested - Home depot or Lowes
Bold and U - Nut.
I got ONE for each side - I got the one that takes a 1/2 wrench to install or take out.. It WILL keep you bag on and it only take a few seconds to remove to get back off..
Good luck getting HD to give you a new saddle bag because Yours fell off - They will claim YOU did something to NOT install it correctly - Since you rode away from the dealer and later it fell off - You and I know it was HD but Proving that??

So you never removed them to wash your bike since you got the bike home? If you did remove the bag and not secure it properly you will probably have issues getting the MOCO to pay for a new bag. Thats the only question they need to ask you to relieve themselves of liability. I'm in both bags every time i ride. I check them nearly every day. The zeus fastener is not a bad design. Military aircraft have been using them for years with great success. The MOCO does need provide bolt on. VERY few people take there bags off so frequent that they need a quick release system.
You tell me if it's a good deal, not trying to rape you I guess, it's about 20.00 worth of stuff,, maybe worth it for convenience. IF Your LOWE'S is anything like mine, they're out of half the hardware I go looking for,,,
Another reason to replace the older type fasteners is to prevent theft. I've read the original fasteners could be easily loosened, released and the bags stolen from the outside.
This being said, I've had a 2010 SG that I rode from Jan of 10, til July of '15, 50+ thousand miles, never lost one, or noticed it loose. 20,000 on my Road Glide, never lost one, or noticed loose. I did however buy two ***** and U nuts, one for each back as safety factor. I have 6x9 speakers in my lids, and they are heavier now, even empty. Just "peace of mind"
