Create map online with Google Maps
Create .gpx file of map using GPS Visualizer page
Copy .gpx file to root of known good USB stick
Connect USB stick to bike
Fire up Navigation on the bike
Go to Import
Bike sees USB stick
Bike sees map name
Select map
Nav system sits there doing seemingly nothing
Come back maybe 5 minutes later and I get an error message
Pokey074 - not sure why it is not running - however, may I suggest this.
Got to Honda Ride Planner. Create your route. When done, export that to your flash drive.
Turn the bike on, let NAV come up. Once up, plug in the flash drive. Go to Import. Import the file you saved.
The import function is for files, not map databases. The Boom has a navigation mapset. I don't see how you can replace the map, especially when it is integrated within the system (e.g., POI, dealerships, etc.).
What software version of BOOM are you running. Anything older than the latest worked fine for me, but I have not tried to upload a .gpx map to the latest and greatest version.
It's a PITA, but maybe a factory reset of BOOM? That always cures a multitude of ills and might get you going...
Try something other than Google Maps, and see what results you have.

I use this one for all my custom routes, and have never had any issues with it.
+1 on the MotoGoLoco. I make routes with this website and export to GPS. I don't have a Harley GPS but I have imported to several harleys that have the GPS and so far no issues.
