Over this winter, I will be taking off several chrome parts to send them to powder coat. Parts include the OE fender support, the docking hardware, console and the rocker boxes. I foolishly bought HD OE covers that already came powder coated.... I'm a newbie.... But the ones I have already taken off I will send off to powder coat as well so I have a back up set of black covers.....just in case.... I will also send my OE engine guard to powder coat as well.
My question is, while I have the rocker boxes off, is there anything that I should do to anything to the top end since I have them off? I am of the mindset that if I take something off, while I am there, might as well do it.
EXAMPLE: I will also be replacing some covers on the exhaust side. While I have the headers off, might as well replace them... I plan on changing them anyways so why not. Any help or recommendations are appreciated.
This is on a 16 SGS with stock 103. I have only done a few bolt on covers from chrome to black and a set of V&H slip ons. I am not looking to build a power horse, but who will complain with a few more horses and few more lbs of torque?

rocker lock outs. Do a forum search you'll see what I'm talking about.
Well, if you have the cam cover off too, then do the cams. Since you have the rocker covers off, you can install sure fit push rods instead of adjustables.
I know Powder-coating is relatively cheap, but why send your originals to PC for a backup if you have new black ones from HD? Chances are high you will never ever need the backup. I'd look to sell the original ones on the classified section here to recover some of your cost.
OR
Can you not return the black ones you bought and continue with the PC?

I dont have the rocker covers in black. The covers I have taken off thatvare chrome that I will PC as backups are the primary cover, derby, trans, and cam. I can see how I was unclear about that in my original post. Also, if god forbid, something was to happen to the bike and Id have to replace it, Id already have a jump start on black covers.
