I have a 2015 Ultra Limited. I have an intermittent issue with the radio/navigation/infotainment system. I has happened twice in the last few weeks.
When I turn the ignition on, before before starting the bike, the radio is playing.
After starting the bike the radio immediately cuts out and the infotainment screen is dark and unresponsive. No radio, no navigation, etc. and I can't get it to work. After I go for my ride, I turn the bike off and when I turn on the ignition the next time, everything is back to normal.
Everything else on the bike seems fine when this happens: gauges, signal lights headlight, engine runs normally, etc., until the next time it happens, which is not all the time.
Any ideas on what this could be and how to address it, or do I wait until and unless it happens all the time and not intermittently?
Do you think think could be a safety issue or could turn into a 'get stranded' issue even though the bike seems to run normally when this occurs?
Thanks in advance.
I was having a similar problem with my 06RG. The radio became intermittent, screen would fade them come back. I pulled it apart and found some bronze type finger springs that had become very light in their contact with the grounding surface of the radio. After I cleaned them up and tightened them down, the radio worked fine from there. Not sure how the new infotainment center is taken outa the shell. Haven't had a need to do that yet, but I would imagine it has a similar contact system.

Are you still running the original battery? How low does the voltage drop during crank/start event when the failure occurs?
Yes, original battery.
If the voltage is low, why would that cut out the radio after bike has started?
I use a battery tender.
Not sure what the voltage drops to when starting the bike.
Interesting thought though.
At what point is voltage during startup too low?
Thanks.

I'm not sure where the point is reached during the voltage drop during starting, but it seems like a possible reason for the radio to shut down as part of a voltage/current draw protection circuit. The protection circuit may not reset until power is shut off allowing the circuit to reset?
Even with the ACR's, that 10.5:1 CR needs a good battery to turn things over & not drop voltage too low. I replaced my battery because voltage was dropping below 9.4 VDC during starts, even though it "passed" a load test in the spring & never had a starting issue all summer. With the new battery starts seem easier & voltage stays above 11 VDC during starts.
Dave - I am thinking about a new battery this year too. Mine has been in the bike since Sept 2013. Seems to start just fine and I may have them load test it first - but, somehow I think it is probably about time for a new one.
Did you go with the standard one from the dealership? I think they are about $150 or so.

Have you tried updating the radio to the newest download? I had that happen to me a few times and it was the software i uploaded the newest and never happen again.
