I have the Harley non-adjustable. Love it.

I had the "non-adjustable" HD backrest on my '08. It does have some manual adjustment, but for me, it sat me straight up too much. I should have bent it in the vice to lean it back more.

On my '16, I opted for the HD adjustable version. This is much better than my last for a couple reasons. It "flips down" for the passenger getting on and off, and it has more range. With saying that, I do realize my rests were on two different frames ('08 and '16 - both Street Glides), so I can't compare exactly back to back.

I had intended on only using mine for longer rides, but I've enjoyed the support and it never comes off of the bike. I just bought my wife the cover that slides over my backrest that has a couple pockets (phone and water bottle).

I got a Grasshopper back rest from eBay 89 bucks work great very easy install leave it in or take it out. A Freind had one and showed me his. Great buy for the money just as good as the HD one but they want four times the amount.

Big fan of the back rest. A must have for long rides. Keeps me from slouching as I have noticed I do. I have the Harley adjustable and so far so good.
Plus, if you happen to not pay attention to where you park and it has a slight down grade, helps in backing up, not that I would know, (wink, wink)

I would echo sailmotion's comments. It is adjustable, at least to the extent that I've found it necessary. I have Harley Backrest P/N: 52572-09A. List is $199.95 but can be obtained for far less from any one of several on-line dealers. Around town I don't use it. But on a long trip? My back thanks me!

When I had that one, I never removed it.....because I wasn't strong enough! LOL!! Man, you have to have the strength of Samson to squeeze those sides to compress the spring and pull it out of the bracket.

I don't leave home without my non-adjustable back rest when on road trips. Gives me great lower back support.
