Default Couple of mods

Accidentally posted this in the Touring forum, so I’m putting a copy here:

I try and ride through the winter and while my Road Glide is excellent at wind protection for my torso, my hands are always cold in the wind. So I picked up a set of “knuckle warmers” and I gotta say, they are great.

I hate thick winter gloves, feels like, well that’s the problem, you can’t feel anything. With these, I wear my single layer summer gloves and it’s cool, but not numbingly cold at all. Great stuff.

Easy install, look like hell but I could care less. They are held on by bending internal wires that run around the perimeter and some Velcro, so they are easy on and off. Makes cold weather riding much more enjoyable.

Next, while enjoying today’s 50 deg weather after 2 days of rain to wash the salt off the roads, I stopped by Empire Harley in New Rochelle and picked up a set of the new style of saddlebag mounting hardware used on the +17 baggers.

Thought I took more photos, but apparently only this one. Took about 5 min to install, simply pop out the old twist locks, pop off the clips on the saddlebag supports on the bike, slip on the new ones and done. They aren’t nearly as quick disconnect as the originals, as these require about 6-7 full turns (think screwing them in) vs end half turn of the originals. They also stick out way more inside the bags. However there’s no way there are coming loose. They have a lock washer built in. I’m kinda indifferent on them, but I paid $50 out the door so I better learn to like them. Oh well.

Lol, they definitely don’t look good! But they work, and that’s what matters.

I gave the metal or plastic shields a thought but I figured these would do a better job as they have more coverage.

Definitely function over form... but if they let you get more miles, all the better.

I bought an aftermarket set of screw in type bag retainers.. but only use one on each bag along with one original quick release...better security and less screwing around.

We’re never satisfied. I grinned, reading about your fastener conversion. I bought the Dzus kit to get rid of the threadeds on my ‘17.

Maybe I should’ve just posted on here for a swap...

Like you Mchad, I bought a set of these a year ago. They do help keeping the cold of the hands.

I have noticed going 70 + the wind collapses it and they will push the brake lever. So I am going to cut an old steel clothes hanger, wrap it in material and sew it in. This will keep the knucklewarmer puffed out by the levers.

I like the fact that you don't have to remove anything for easy on and off.
