Water pump issues:
2 weeks ago I got the ole "HI TEMP" and "CEL". Replaced the coolant sensor since pump and fans passed the test. Well it did not fix my bike. So I decided to go over a few checks again. I noticed the pump ran but did sound a bit odd. Took pump off today and hooked power to it and it ran but seemed weak and always slowed down after the initial start. Took front cap off and pulled magnets out and found 3 pieces of magnet inside the pump housing!!! So now I am wondering if I should buy the BOSCH pump for 90 bucks and just try swapping the magnets out!?!?......has anyone tried this. I hate to spend 400 bucks on a pump the size of a pack of cigs...lol!

While I was searching for a pump in stock just a few days ago, two dealers both told me the current pump 26600012 is marked for obsolescence in the HD computer system, but there wasn't any info on what part number was replacing it nor when it will be available.

Hopefully the new pump works much better than this current one.

i think everyone is ready for this ! They won't come out with the new pump until they sell every last one of the junk ones. It's how they operate.

Or they may not be coming out with a replacement. They are only required to maintain a supply to cover warranty claims. 16 was the last year for bikes with the current pump. So with a two year warranty they are getting close to the end of the warranty for most of the 16's. If they don't keep making them or come out with an updated pump they are going to **** off a lot of there customers. Something they don't need with there sales already dropping like a rock. So I'm hoping they have an improved pump in the works.

Sorry to say but the improved pumps are on the M8's, we're still using the same part number as when the 14's 1st arrived and will. The M8's removed the thermostat and the fans kick on a bit more, this according to the tech that replaced a friends pump back from our trip from South Dakota.

IIRC the pumps on the M8 only run when needed unlike the Twin Cooled pumps that run whenever the engine is running. Maybe that will help extend the life of the pump, at least in terms of mileage.

Hopefully, I have not heard of a M8 pump going out yet so maybe there on the right track for a change.

If that is true though then the M8 pump won't work on twin cam cooled engines, as our pumps need to run full time. So there will have to be a replacement part number for our pre-M8 bikes.

Unless the M8 pump can run full time too and the computer is controlling when it runs, in which case the M8 pump might still work in our twin cams.
