Did you keep the old pump? Seems like a few threads out there about a solder joint that goes bad.
Anyway great job on completing the ride!
No..I meant to ask for it. Thanks. I think Harley finally stepped up with the new pump. German made & no thermostat. Only runs at a certain temp. The new pump got a good workout after being installed. 1600 miles including about an hour of stop & go Miami 5:00 traffic.
These frigg'n water pumps...I hate t even think about it. I have almost 40k on the 2014 FLHTK and the OEM pump is still there pump'n. All laid up for the winter but already planning on some long summer rides. Makes ya wonder how luck ya are...LOL
"Don't fix it if it's not broke..." but there are some long and lonely roads out here in Nevada, Utah and Arizona...

`Wouldn`t hurt to drain and flush that cooling system and replace the coolant during the winter after 40K miles.

I have a good friend have his pump go out in Jackson,WY, The HD Dealer said it would cost $1000.00 to replace it. He told them they're crazy. He rode home, 1200 miles, with his wife on the back. He had no problems with over heating. As long as you stay way from stop and go traffic in hot weather you should have no problems. He's not the only person I know who had a similar experience.
OP, sorry about the water pump, but glad you had a safe ride.
Dang that is a quick turn around?
We did 7 days over the holidays all the way to Key West also and it was 2047 miles total. But we did run to the islands in Georgia, down 17 and A1A to Daytona which adds a few.

This water pump issue is a good test of your priorities. A new pump costs $268 from Surdyke and it's my understanding installation requires a few hours in the garage by your average DIYer. Plan B is to ride my 2016 FLHTK covered by ESP with my fingers crossed and take the chance of losing the pump at a very "inconvenient location" translates to "in the middle of nowhere with the closest dealer not having a new pump in stock."
"Don't fix it if it's not broke" or invest $268 to stay out of trouble 150 miles East of Bozeman Montana (no disrespect to Bozeman).
I spent more than that on new chrome non functional pieces for the bike over the winter. Doesn't seem like that difficult a question however I haven't made the decision either.
