HD Sena 20S headset pairing issues

Default HD Sena 20S headset pairing issues

Good afternoon. Need some troubleshooting advice.
I purchased and installed the whim module, the special harness, (2017 Street Glide), did the firmware update, did the HDBoom 6.5 Software update, purchased the 2 headset pack of HD EVO 20S bluetooth headset, did the software update on them too.

Went to HD Dealer today for WHIM flash. Had to wait 4 hours!!!
After the Flash service writer and I try to pair my headset.
Getting all the correct audible cues.
Flashing all the right colors.
It won't finish pairing!!!
Service writer walked away after 10 minutes. Said parts guy could help. He never came out.
I was really annoyed after waiting 4 hours so I left.

Any idea what is wrong?


This is as far as the process goes....

May need to have it reflashed.

Yeah, I know exactly what's wrong. You took it to the wrong dealer! The tech walks away and doesn't come back? And you're asking US what the problem is?

Try the other 20S. Also could be a defective WHIM.

I have the HD 20S dual set in use on a '17 Limited. i also did my own WHIM, accessory harness (and SiriusXM module) installation. Then I took it to my dealer for flashing. The service manager said everything on the bike checked out fine, but he had no solid knowledge of how to activate and pair the 20S setup. He told me they had received no specific training on it, but of course DID have the download file explaining the entire process to pair and operate the 20S. I figured I could do that as well as the dealer, so took it home and followed the instructions. No problems getting it to pair. I of course don't recall the entire process, but getting things paired seemed to be the simple part. One thing you might try is starting the process (of pairing) from scratch. Using the touchscreen, delete or 'forget' any 20S device which has been detected and saved. Basically: Leave the 20S units turned off. Go to the touchscreen and delete any 20S headset info saved on the bike's Boom Audio system. Then consult the operation manual and begin the recognition/pairing process exactly as written.

I haven't yet met a HD service tech around here who is expert at understanding and operating the Boom Audio + HD 20S + Smart Phone. I'd love to meet that guy and have him for a resource.

Thanks for your reply. I found the PDF file and read through it. I will do the factory reset and the reset with the paper clip..
Will start from scratch and do what you suggested.
I will even redo the firmware upgrades afterwards if the pairing doesn't complete.
Very strange. It appears to be almost finished. Audio in headsets. It just doesn't get to the completed screen.

I went back to the beginning and started over. I updated the firmware of the WHIM and updated the firmware of the BOOM EVO 20S.

Success!

I was able to pair both headsets.

I got the CONFIG menus for Rider and Passenger Headsets.

All Good Now.

What did the dealer charge you for the flash? I just bought the WHIM set up for mine along with a pair of 30K’s. Installing the WHIM myself and got two prices from two dealerships; $30 and $60.

Glad to see you got it working. So all along it was the new download that made it work? I wonder why the tech at the dealer didn't do that for you. Like I said before, please try to get another dealer to help you in the future. That dealer doesn't deserve your money and loyalty.

And at the very least, write a letter to the owner of the dealership and let them know what happened with that tech. IT might just be a bad employee and the dealer will be glad to know he/she has an employee that could be costing them loss of customers.

Old Glory Harley-Davidson in Laurel, Maryland charged me $28.75 to flash the WHIM.
