If I understand you right you are talking about putting the shift peg on the outside? Not a good idea without a spacer as there would be too much play.
I fully understand that. I chose to leave mine on the inside as pictured in post #1. It works fine. But as mentioned if I moved it to the outside I would prefer the nicer billet spacer. Just commenting on the very low, very fair price of this HD spacer.
One of the very first things I do with a bike is eliminate the heel shifter. Now if you REALLY want some foot room, swap out to Cyclesmiths Banana Boards.
