I believe they are required to maintain parts for 10 years. That part does not have to be the same as the one installed - can be an upgraded part - but, must fit and function as the original.
I am with Hadditude on this. While I am always looking to save money, there are some features that the Harley radio has that the Sony does not.
First, I can reuse my current XM radio. Plus, I can also use my CB - our HOG groups uses this all the time when group riding. Add to that, I can continue to use my intercom system.

Harley is selling less bikes , maybe they have a warehouse full of radios they don't want to get stuck with when they come out with something new next year.
