Going on a trip next week and wanna update the maps, I have the V2012 original maps. Did a trip 3 weeks ago and the system worked fine but I figure it's time. I don't wanna attempt this before the trip if there might be a problem so for those of you that have done this what can I expect? I remember reading something about putting a flash drive into the bike to verify (?) something then bringing the drive to the PC and downloading the maps on to the stick? Then back to the bike? Any help would be appreciated...
O.K., just did the download, thanks again Dawg! Took a couple of hours following the instructions from the link above but went fairly smooth. A 4 GB update, it is Q2 2018 maps. Biggest decision was to purchase from the HD/Naviextras site or from Naviextras themselves, I guess they're 2 different sellers. It got a little confusing at that point. Hopefully it will be worth the time and $$$, I'll see next week on the trip.

You bet! Yeah...it's a slow process. But sounds like it went ok for you. Good luck & ride safe.

Please post your experience after your trip. I have a '15 I've been debating updating and would like to know if you notice any difference. Kind of strange that in 2020 the newest version is 2018 though

Yeah, 2 years old. When I bought my 2014 it had 2012 maps so I'm updating 6 years newer. I watched the entire download process, it is a huge update. Every State was listed, Canada, Mexico, all of North America, took probably an hour and a half to download to the flash drive and another hour to load into the bike. I'm pretty sure it's not just a POI update, a lot more than that. I'm heading to Maine (lobsta, LOL!) on Thursday, 4 days there and then over to Cape Cod (hopefully depending on weather) for 3 more days. I'm sure I'll be using the new maps, I'll update when I get back!

Took an 80 mile local ride today and DEFINITELY noticed a difference. LOTS more roads marked, a couple of previously unnamed ponds that I pass now are named, all the entry roads to the Jones Beach parking fields are now clearly marked...I pass a closed landfill on my way down to the beach, before it was just a green mass, now it's light gray and roads are clearly marked on it. Also all the coastline along the South Shore of Long Island is very clearly defined, what used to be a series of lines kind of connecting along the shore is now actual contours of the shoreline. For me, this upgrade was definitely worth the money. Now if I could only figure out what the different colors signify, I saw dark gray along the beach so I'm guessing that's sand, green is pretty obvious but the light gray, the light and dark brown, a couple others, I have no idea what they mean. I wonder if there's a guide somewhere...
