Ive changed fork oil twice on my14 Limited and once on my 20 Heritage Classic. Having the right tools makes all the difference. However, I did install the top caps by hand. Not fun. As far as oil, I used a 50/50 mix of Screamin Eagle and Type E. Not sure doing that improved the ride much, if at all.
I put Maxima 20w in my 17 CVO Limited this past summer. It wasn't a difficult job at all to R&R the forks, just tedious to do without tearing up the fairing, etc. The worst part by far is compressing the fork spring and reinstalling the plug in each fork. I didn't replace any of the seals, etc and have had 0 issues with leaks, etc. (17k on bike atm of replacement) The other upside to completely removing and disassembling the forks is you can clean all the internal parts and get all the old oil, dirt, grime, etc out as well. My old oil was silver from all the metal particulate in the oil.
I was quoted $400 from an Indy shop that used to be an HD dealership/service but got their franchise yanked because they wouldn't relocate an build a new facility. I've watched the video on doing it an I'm not sure I want to tackle it. I did my own cams but I don't feel comfortable with it. I plan to swap to chrome lowers when I do it.

If you can do your own cam(s), you can most certainly do the fork rebuild. The cam(s) are much, much more involved than rebuilding a couple forks.
I might give it a shot....Did a little reading an it sounds like I can leave the tubes in the triple trees...I don't have a vice an no where to mount one so it might help. I'll have to read through the manual.

While it may be possible to do it this way with the forks in the trees, it will be difficult at best, and to clean everything, you need to remove the guts which means flipping the tubes upside down. Not to mention, the spring has to come out to refill the fork properly, AND the fork tube needs to be vertical to ensure you get the fill right.
Good luck and have fun!

Reason: grammar
OK guess I'm ordering a vice an maybe the correct seal driver.
You can use electrical tape to drive the new seal in - youtube it, it's easy. I've never used a vice really, but I did pick up the Jims Fork cap tool which makes compressing the spring and starting the cap a breeze...
