And the hits just keep on coming...took the bike out yesterday, new pump seems to be working fine...I guess, fans never came on so who knows. Anyway, I checked codes a few times and this code "U0184 Lost comm w/radio" popped up. I cleared and it came up again. Anyone have any experience with this code? Thanks in advance...

Thanks...we did a Mother's Day Run, 5 or 6 stops and starts. On one of the starts the screen went blank, wouldn't start at all. After about 10 minutes of riding the radio booted back up and everything worked fine. Next stop I cleared the codes. Two stops later when starting the small round red (check engine?) light flashed, a code flashed briefly and the system started and worked fine all the way home. When I got home the code had returned. I'm gonna re-install the radio software, try there first. From what I'm reading there might have been a brief loss of communication, maybe a bad or loose or dirty connection somewhere. Just can't help thinking it might be related to the new water pump I put in last week even though I was nowhere near the upper fairing or behind the radio.
I used to get that one or U1401 (lost com w/CB), and once or twice a U185 (lost com w/Amp). Never did I ever notice anything was "going on", no loss of sound or flickering screen... nothing. I had the fairing off one time for something so while I was in there I unplugged and plugged everything related... still would occasionally get them. I never figured out what the cause was and I never seen any other sign there was a problem... I would just see a code if I checked lol
A year and a half ago I put in a GTS head unit and have not seen any radio related codes since...
It sounds like its reaching its end of life. The 14 Ultra Limited is getting older by the day. I always wondered how long the Boom Box would last. Maybe, because of the symptoms yours is showing, we have an answer?

Same here, everything seems to be working fine and I wouldn't even know about the code if I wasn't checking for the overheating code (1019) I got last week. As to the radio "freeze", it's happened before so maybe it was a small glitch. The codes are gone now so I'll monitor it and hope for the best...thank you!

Ugh, hoping not! I really don't want to buy another new Harley as I hate the direction the MoCo has gone, bottom line first, customer last! But the thought of a $2K repair on an almost 8 year old bike presents a dilemma too. I just checked, the code is gone, I'll see what happens. Thanks...

On the bright side you can find a replacement radio for about $300 if in fact your radio has an issue, I installed the GTS, no regrets what so ever, and literally night and day difference.
Here's a little tid bit about the Can-bus systems, all the modules can stay active(Awake) and communicating with one another up to 1 hour after the bike or car/truck has been shut off (When I have to do a draw test I have to wait 30 minutes to 1 hour to let the modules go into sleep mode before testing can be done) any how with that being said, the radio could be shutting down quicker than the rest of the modules and the other modules (most likely the ECM) are trying to communicate with it, hence the U0184 code of Lost COMM.
I wouldn't worry or lose any sleep over it, I see LOST COMM codes in different modules everyday in the vehicles that I work on, the only time to worry about it is when the code simply will not clear, that's normally a clear indication of either a bad module, or a fault in the COMM line.

While what youre saying may be true, what youre describing doesnt seem to jibe with the symptoms in post #2 does it?
