I never had a problem with it. I know there are some who complain about the interface or other things but I generally like it. I did upgrade to the GTS version a few years back and like it more. I used both of them on cross country trips with no issue.
I think it's fairly decent. The biggest problem with the built in GTS, or even a Garmin is that the map detabase requires updating to maintain accuracy as roads and routes change over time. So I use Google Maps on my iPhone which pulls routes from the internet, rather than a local static source.
The map in your unit is probably a 2015 possibly older version. You have to pay to update the maps. Depending on where you go and how much you depend on the gps for guidance that could be an issue.
The Garmin can be updated for free to more current maps. I rally like my new XT big bright screen. It also has the extra cost ability for speed camera location warnings and other nice add on features.
This is why most cars no longer have their own GPS, and use Car Play. It's just better. I like Waze, and Google Maps but with my Cardo helmet comm system, Waze won't override music or the intercom for when my wife is with me. That said, SCENIC APP will work well with our GPS. That means, I plan my routes on google maps, export them seamlessly to Scenic (desktop) app, that imports it automatically to your phone app, and from there, export it (or import it) to your Boom 6.5gt system you and I have. Works great. The bikes Nav system sucks horse co*k for planning rides/routes. That said, it's not bad to use as a gps unit. I recommend you also use your phone gps app of your choice on the bars as a backup if your destination is super important.

The problem with Car Play, Google Maps, etc. is you need to plan ahead if you're going to be in the middle of BFE with no cell coverage. Another good thing about GPS...I've use an old Garmin Nuvi that transmits over FM radio, which is nice if you want tunes and you're in the middle of BFE or not finding a good station.
Im 2nd owner of my 2015 ultra. We just went on a 5k mile trip. Im sure the onboard gps map has never been updated. I experimented with google maps, apple maps & waze. Waze was the least effective in my case. Would have got me lost in a couple of places, if Id followed waze. When we got in Yellowstone, nothing would work. Everything said roads were closed that were not. I punched it into the harley gps and it worked perfectly. I will probably pay for the update before my next big trip or get a real gps.
