Hi all,
I have a UL 2023 that I would like to install a stage 1 and possibly 2 over the winter.
i want to go with Screaming eagle parts due to the bike being under warranty.
Dealer suggested SE slip ons, air filter and tuner. My question is, if I go with slip ons instead of changing the whole exhaust system I would be having 3 catalytic converters!!! The one on the header pipes plus the ones that come on the slip ons..... I am thinking now about all the bikes running with 3 cats because guys normally install only slip ons
It depeneds on what you are getting so check with the dealer of ask for the part number. Some Screamin Eagle slipon kits include a high flow header, and cost a lot more that slipons. But the basic Screamin Eagle slipons for 2017 and up Touring models do not include cats in the mufflers.
If you want more information, check the link below. That very question was asked and the response from HD was no.
SE slip on mufflers don't have cats. The SE high performance set of head pipe and muffler has the cat in the mufflers not the head pipe. Having the cats in the mufflers moves the heat away from the passenger/rider. Now there are two cats the combined diameter is larger than the single cat reducing back pressure.

I have a brand new Road King Special and here in France we also have cats in the mufflers, I think it's the same in Canada...
This is the inlet side of the French OEM muffler...
Luckily I was able to get a pair of US OEM mufflers without the cat, a little more rumble but not a big difference, for now I'm sticking with them...
