I was thinking about the one from 2009-2012? I believe the switch was affected by exhaust pipe heat
OP has a 2014. I know this is the first time Ive read about anyone having a problem with the rear brake light switch on a Rushmore touring bike and I dont really think we know the issue was caused by exhaust pipe heat, even though he says it happens when the bike gets hot in the summer. Also, the fact that there are no threads on this issue and that there are no YouTube videos leads to believe its not a common problem.
On the pre- rushmore bikes they put the brake light switch right next to the cat converter, just dumb place to put it.
They did a recall but still had some problems.
On the Tri-Glides they put it next to the front pipe by the rear master cylinder in a very hard placed to reach. Just another dumb place !
The engineer that designed this should be punched right in the mouth.
