Had a fun event last week, we got a little rain and my 2016 rg got caught in it. Went to start it up and the speedo cluster was dead along with no turn signals. I figured I had left something unplugged as I had changed the battery the night before. Figured I would take a look at it after I wash it. When I got done washing it, I noticed water on the inside of the glass. An ah ha moment. Did a quick scan and had a code for no communication with speedometer. So naturally I disassembled it. Sure enough, I could shake water out of the electronics.
I ordered a new cvo unit to replace this one, but its not due in until May. I want to ride now! I placed the unit face down on top of my mini split for a day to draw the moisture out. The following day, I had a working speedometer again.
The bike is 10 years old, so the foam sealing tape had dried out and let water in. For now, I cleaned all of the factory tape off, siliconed everything and remounted the glass with silicone sealing it as well. Back to functional until the new unit comes in.
Keep an eye on that if you ride in the rain and when washing the bike.
